Subic Bay Children's Home Receives 100% of Your Donation
"A Paradise for the Kids"

Every week in our updates we will give you a little history of one of the children at the home.  This week's child is Allen Jay Ortega (AJ).

About six months ago we received several emails from a man who saw our web site.  He was looking for a home for AJ when he came across our site.  After looking at several children's homes he felt that our home was the best for him.  He contacted us and told us AJ's story.

The man and his wife had let a pregnant woman stay in their home up to the time when she gave birth.  After giving birth the lady left to go to the store but never returned leaving them with the baby whom they simply named AJ.

As AJ grew they began to notice that he was an unusually hyper child.  After several years the wife became pregnant and no longer wanted to care for him.  They gave him to a relative but found out that he was being physically abused. That is when they began to search for a home to place him.

AJ arrived here at our home on July 28.  He was four years old and he soon began kindergarten.  He had difficulty speaking. We had him checked by a doctor but results showed nothing wrong with AJ and we were advised to just give him time.

Personal Note: When I was there in March 2009 AJ still couldn't speak.  Pray for him.

 Change in Transportation Project

We are excited to have found another vehicle to replace the bus in our transportation project.  It is a Mitsubishi L300FB.

The Mitsubishi L300FB has several advantages over the bus.
  • It's smaller and more maneuverable
  • It will carry as many kids as the bus
  • Uses less fuel
  • Dual Purpose - Seats fold up and can be used for hauling large items.
  • A NEW L300FB is about $4,000 less than a used bus.  It only costs about $13,000

Full Brochure

As of today there have been 79 tickets sold giving us a total of $1,027 for the transportation project.

1000 tickets at $13 each need to be sold to complete this project.  We are lacking 921 tickets or $11,973.

Resources You Can Use to Help Sell Rice

We have made a donation letter and a poster for those who want to help promote the food drive.
  • Poster - Some Office Max/Impress stores can make a 2 X 3 color poster for $29.  Just take them the MSPublisher file. It's too large to email and you won't be able to open it unless you have MSPublisher.  Poster - Bottom of the page
  • Donation Letter - Download a sample donation letter. Change it to suit your taste and style or use your own. I am writing to business owners I know to whom I have sent business over the years.  Letter - Bottom of the page
P.S.  I mailed about a dozen of the donation letters to business owners and already received a donation.
