More About Rebecca Moon

Last week I received an email from the woman whom last weeks child, Rebecca Moon, was named after.  It was a touching email so I decided to add it to this weeks update along with Rebecca's story again for those who missed it.

Dear Bro. Mark,

This is "Heidi Moon," now Heidi Zander.  I was just relating the story of Rebecca to a friend on Sunday and it still makes me cry.  While I was in the Philippines I went to Manila and tried to find out if I could adopt her.  At the time I was only 18; with all the restrictions there was nothing else I could do.  I feel very bad for not keeping in touch with her very well.  I always pray for her.  I was very very heartbroken to leave her and really felt like I abandon her.  I can never forget the night I had to walk out and leave her.  If there was any way possible to adopt her -I would do it in an instant.  Well... less than an instant.  Now I am 28 and my husband is 32.  We have 4 other children.  Our oldest daughter sometimes tells people that she has an older sister in the Philippines.  They are exactly 18 months apart.  Thank you so much for making her the child of the week so I could see her again.  I love her very much.  Her baby picture is still on my refrigerator.  We would love to visit, but our 2nd daughter cannot fly due to Chronic Lung Failure.  My biggest prayer is that she will love the Lord with all her heart and trust Jesus so that we can spend Forever together.

Sincerely, Heidi

"A Paradise for the Kids"

Every week in our updates we will give you a little history of one of the children at the home.  This weeks child is Rebecca Moon.

Rebecca Moon

Rebecca was born January 12, 2000.  Late one Saturday night on February 7, 2000 there was a knock on the gate of the children's home.  A middle aged lady came through with a bundle in her arms.  It was a newborn baby.

The baby was quite a sight!  Wrapped in flour sacks and an old dirty towel she was laid on the table.  The mother tried to sell her to us.  The mother was a peanut vendor who had babies on the side to make extra money.

The Lord was watching over Rebecca.  She wasn't sold or left to die.  She was brought here to Subic Bay Children's Home.

The mother signed the papers, but when she realized she wasn't going to get paid for Rebecca she said she wasn't sure she wanted to leave her.  We told her it was too late and she would have to go.

The next day the mother's brother, after finding out she did not receive any money, came here with his machete to get the baby back.  The Lord was still watching over Rebecca and he did not succeed.

We named the child Rebecca Renee Moon.  During Rebecca's first six months she was being taken care of by a volunteer from the States, Heidi Moon.

She is now very strong and healthy.  Her complexion is beautiful.  After she arrived she was having trouble with her belly button. The infection is all cleared up now.  Rebecca is a beautiful young girl.  God has wonderful things in store for her.  Please pray for her daily. Pray that she will grow up to be a virtuous woman that loves the Lord with all of her heart.

Personal Note:  During my stay at the children's home I was around Rebecca a lot.  She kinda hung around.  She is one of the sweetest girls you will ever meet.  When she gives you a hug (She likes to give hugs) she really puts a squeeze on you.  She is a very precious little girl.  In the last shipment that arrived I had put a pair of pink, fuzzy house slippers and some candy in a baggie for her.
"Christmas is Finished"

Teresa Forrester from McHenry Mississippi brought all the Christmas gifts for the children in the home to our church here in Memphis this weekend.

Members of her church drew names and bought each child the gift they asked for.  Gifts like:
  • Bikes
  • Doll Houses
  • Gameboys
  • Guitars
  • Roller Blades
Thank the Lord even though the children are in an orphanage they live better than the most kids in the Philippines.  God continually blesses their lives through good hearted unselfish people.

Also we were blessed to have Teresa and her five children play and sing in our church this Sunday.  They played guitars, mandolin, and a fiddle (Southern for violin).

Visiting the Children's Home

Mr. Lee Chee Tian with Abigail and Michaela

Mr. Lee Chee Tian from Malaysia visited the children's home a few weeks ago.  Mr. Tian has a heart for the children and does a lot for them.  Also many of his friends and co-workers help a lot by selling bus tickets and making other donations.

I am still wanting to organize a group trip but don't have any leading as to when just yet.  Those who are interested be sure to let me know.  I will keep the matter in prayer.

Subic Bay Baptist Church Anniversary

While I was there in March Subic Bay Baptist Church was celebrating its anniversary.  Pastor Rudy Rico from Pampanga was there to sing and preach for one of the services.  Pastor Rudy was a drug addict before the Lord saved him and called him to preach.  He has been a pastor for over 20 years now.

Here he is at another church that I visited while I was there.  I got so excited about the singing I woke my pastor up at 2:00 in the morning so he could hear.  You will see me stick my phone out about half way through the video.
