"A Paradise for the Kids"

 Rachel Caparas

Every week in our updates we will give you a little history of one of the children at the home.  This week's child is Rachel Caparas.

Rachel was born February 21, 1994 to an alcoholic mother and a cruel father who beat her often.  Her father could not stand to look at her because he believed that Rachel was not his daughter.  His accusations may have been accurate because his wife was known to have been with other men.  Rachel's older siblings didn't believe that she was their sister either.  Therefore they were very mean to her and beat her.

Rachel was brought to Subic Bay Children's Home on August 6, 1996 by her mother.  Rachel was two years old.  Not much is known about her mother except her name.

Rachel was a malnourished and abused young child .  Even at the young age of two Rachel had had to fight for the food she got.

When Rachel arrived she had an ear infection so bad that a most foul smelling drainage from her ears would flow down her face and neck. Constant attention, medication and prayer has healed her.

It took Rachel a while to learn that she no longer lived the same lifestyle.  She soon discovered that she had people who loved her and would take care of her.  She had food and clothes and no longer had to sleep among the filth and bugs.

Personal Note:  Rachel is now 15 years old.  I spent a lot of time around this young lady during my visits to the children's home.  She has really good sense of humor and likes to joke a lot.   Even though she had a very difficult life in the beginning she has turned out to be a very sweet Christian young lady.  She also speaks pretty good English. Romans 8:28 is true thank the Lord.

Driving in the Philippines

This video is from my first trip to the Philippines in May 2008.  Brother Boyette (In front - blue shirt) was my driver for my whole stay.

In the Philippines you will constantly hear horns beeping.  Their beep is not to say "Hey! get out of my way."  When you beep it is letting the other driver know you're there.  All the beeping they do over there would lead to epidemic road rage here in the U.S.

Anyway in this one and half minute video I am in the back seat (I learned where to sit pretty quickly) holding the camera.  Brother Rodrigo and Boyette are in the front.  Brother Rodrigo likened driving in the Philippines to being inside a video game.  I agreed with him.

Turn your volume up and pay close attention toward the end when you see the bus.

I always have a lot of fun visiting the Philippines.  Someday I hope some of you are able to ride with me and Boyette.
