"My Pet Project"

I have been praying for several months for the "Bus Project."  I know there are other needs but this one is special to me.  The kids would be able to go and do a lot more things if they had suitable transportation.  Please pray with me that we will be able to fund this project soon.  Riding the bus with all those kids sounds like a lot of fun to me.

BUS TICKETS FOR SALE

The children aren't able to leave the home very much because transportation has to be rented.  One Jeepney rents for $40 round trip and it takes two to transport all the children.  About 20-25 of the kids can fit in the back of the little truck shown at the bottom of this page.  But it is old and unreliable and not good for long trips.  Bigger and more reliable transportation is needed.

Some of you have asked, "Who are you?"  Here is my story...

My name is Mark White and I am the U.S. Representative for Subic Bay Children's Home.  I took this job after my first visit to the children's home in May, 2008.  Our church and myself personally have been supporting the ministry almost since its beginning in 1990.  During my first visit I saw all the good things that were happening there and fell in love with the precious children.   I work at my church as missionary director/maintenance man.  I receive no pay from the children's home for any thing I do for them.  I am able to spend a lot of my time at work doing work for the children's home.  The rest is voluntary.  I have found God's perfect will for my life in this capacity. If you want to talk about the children's home or the kids you may call me direct on my cell anytime at 901-486-4003 (24/7/365)

I leave my cell phone always (Except Wed. night and Sunday during church time) for two reasons:

1.  So anyone who has seen our web site and has questions about the home can call.  I have had a few late night inquiries.

2.  So the kids at the children's home can call.  They have an open invitation to call me anytime they want something or just want to talk.  I usually get calls from them between 11:00 PM and 4 AM.  To be awakened at 4 AM and hear a wee, sweet, little voice with a beautiful Filipino accent say, "I love you, sir" is a blessing from God.
"I Am Redeemed"

Some of you may have seen Michelle sing "I Am Redeemed" on YouTube.  She sang it for us again during my last trip in March.  Listen to it.  It will bless your heart.

Blessed is he that considereth the poor...

Ps. 41:1-3
  1. Blessed is he that considereth the poor: the LORD will deliver him in time of trouble.
  2. The LORD will preserve him, and keep him alive; and he shall be blessed upon the earth: and thou wilt not deliver him unto the will of his enemies.
  3. The LORD will strengthen him upon the bed of languishing: thou wilt make all his bed in his sickness.

5 Promises
1.      He will deliver a man who considers the poor.
2.      He will preserve this man and keep him alive.
3.      He will bless him and not deliver him to his enemies.
4.      He will take care of him when he is sick.
5.      He will help him to endure the sickness physically.

What is a Balikbayan Box?

The term literally means "to send back home."  It is a large box about 1.5 X 1.5 X 2 feet and usually has no weight limit.  It can cost anywhere from $35 to $125 depending on where you live.  If you live closer to the coast it will usually be cheaper.

There are many companies that do this type of shipping.  Below are links to a few of the major companies.  If you know of a good shipping company not on the list email the info to me and I will post it.

If you can't find a Balikbayan shipper in your area you can ship the items to me and I will put it in one of our boxes (We send 3 or 4 boxes a month) with a "From You" label.

ALERT:  The shippers will tell you that the boxes will arrive in 30 days.  This is true with the shipping company I use now.  Some boxes I have shipped using other companies have taken up to two and a half months to get there.  If you want them to arrive by Christmas be sure to ship by September.

ALERT:  Sending packages through the postal service is risky.  I learned that the hard way. Although I have had no problem sending letters or birthday cards.

ALERT:  Chocolate and Gummy Bear Vitamins will melt in the summer time during shipment.  Their summer runs from March-May.  Be sure to always seal chocolate in a zip lock bag so it won't leak on everything if it does melt.

Visiting the Philippines
We would like to plan a group trip to the children's home in the distant future.  If you are remotely interested call or email me and let's talk.

Before my first trip I had the mind set of "I'll just send the money instead of spending it all on a plane ticket.  That would make the most sense financially."  I've heard others say it also.  And it sounds logical.  But when you visit and see how people in the Philippines live and meet the children you will make an emotional attachment that you couldn't make otherwise.

They say if your heart is right you can't visit a third world country and come back the same.  It will change you.  I'm inclined to agree with that statement.

You don't have to be the "world traveller" type - I'm definitely not.  If you plan well it's not a bad trip.  And yes, they will have something besides chicken feet and snails for you to eat.  But it's good to like rice.

How much will it cost?  It will cost a plane ticket.  Maybe that's all if I can find a way to subsidize the other costs.

Pray about it.  I promise you will be blessed if you go.
