Pooch flies in style on corporate jet!
Once a stray, Tucker is now settled in with his family in Chicago. |
In late August, Second Home Pet Resort owners Roger and Cheryl Naumann were driving home at dusk when they spotted a stray dog about to wander into a busy street in north Phoenix. Fortunately, the German shepherd mix was a lovable guy, eager for his adventure on the streets to come to an end. He settled easily into the back of the Naumann's SUV and headed for Second Home Pet Resort (SHPR). His collar sported an ID tag with the name "Tucker", and a phone number which was no longer in service. Within 24 hours, flyers were posted in the neighborhood where Tucker had been found, and his picture and description were posted on PetFinder.com, Pets911.com and Craigslist.com. Then, after some challenging internet detective work, finally a break: Tucker's original owner had been found... in Chicago!

| Employee Spotlight - Alice Mancine
Alice in Guest Services gives pets a great vacation! |
Before joining Second Home Pet Resort as a Guest Service Attendant, Alice was a stay-home mom; now, she absolutely loves spending time with our animal guests. Alice develops a real understanding of our guests, especially the dogs, and she can tell exactly when they need an extra pet or hug, or when a nice romp in our spacious play yards is in order.
At home, Alice enjoys the company of Rocky, a rat terrier and Daytona, a Rottweiler who Alice adopted from SHPR's onsite adoption center. Alice primarily works the morning shift, dishing up yummy breakfasts and giving dogs their first leg-stretching session outside after a peaceful night's sleep. She also prepares custom meals, keeps each guest's suite spotless, and assures medications are given properly and on time.
After her work day ends around 2:00 pm, Alice takes her own dogs to the park to hang out with their neighborhood dog friends. Alice is one of our opening team members; she's been with us since September of 2008. Alice, we love you - thanks for being such a great friend to our animal guests! |
Shadow's 100th Visit to SHPR
Loyal canine client celebrates special day |
| Shadow Wright, a very handsome Siberian husky, has been coming to SHPR since he was just a little puppy; we've watched him grow into a mature, wonderful dog (who even enjoys taking naps on the play equipment!).
Recently, Shadow celebrated his 100th Doggie DayCare visit and we were so excited! As a token of our appreciation, Shadow enjoyed a free play day and received a gift bag with his favorite treats and toys.
Thank you, Shadow, for loving us as much as we love you. Here's to another 100!

| SHPR regular, Gibbs, meets new buddy!
Rusty finds new family at Second Home's Adoption Center |
Just a few weeks ago, Rusty was all alone in a kennel at Maricopa County Animal Care & Control. This beautiful stray dog came to Second Home Pet Resort hoping to find a home, and he did just that.
Holly Vanderpool, one of our loyal clients, saw Rusty and thought maybe her Aussie/Collie, "Gibbs" (a doggie day care regular), would like a housemate. After a week together as new best buddies, it's clear they were meant for each other.
The dogs get their morning brushing from Holly (Gibbs helps out by grooming Rusty), take their daily hikes together, come to SHPR for Doggy DayCare, and they even like to lie in each others' beds. They have become great friends and Rusty is a wonderful addition to the family. |
| Smart Shoppers Earn Free Resort Nights
VIPet Partners help our business grow, reap benefits |
| Since our VIPet Partner program was launched in late May of 2009, a total of 132 clients have signed up to earn free day care days or boarding nights. This awards program allows you to earn free services every time you refer a new client to us!
Mary Burke first joined the program in May of this year, and she tells family and friends about us at every opportunity! She enjoys earning free services for her pets Gus, Lou and Jinx. When asked what she tells others to encourage them to use Second Home Pet Resort, Mary says "You have a nice, comfortable facility and a really nice group of people who obviously care deeply about the animals. Everyone who works with you loves animals and your facility is just fantastic!"
One of our most active VIPet Partners, Emily Daley first joined the program in June 2009. She works at Desert Hills Animal Hospital, and when their customers are looking to board their pets she tells them about us and gives them a coupon (we provide them on request to all VIPet Partners). The clients really love the "free night" coupon, and Emily can use her own free night awards for her own pets (she's earned 10 free nights so far)!
Emily says "I tell our customers that all the SHPR staff members are genuine animal lovers. Everyone really works to get to know the animal guests and make sure that they are well taken care of. I have toured a few boarding facilities and none of them made me as comfortable as SHPR did. I also like the different types of suites that you can choose, and that you even have TLC suites for guests with special needs. Everyone has said great things after their pets stay at the resort! They say their pets weren't stressed, they had a good time, the facility was clean and all the staff was great."

Free kitty fun!
Do you have a cat who loves to play, or who embraces her mischevious side?
Keep the ideas below in mind next time you head to the grocery store: |
|
|
Baby Carrots
There's just something about the size, texture and color of baby carrots that captivate cats!
Playfully toss or accidentally "drop" a baby carrot on the floor and watch your cat bat it across the room or carry it in her mouth around the house. And, if she decides to end the game and devour the carrot, it's perfectly healthy! |
|
|
Soda Boxes
Wait, don't toss them out!
Their shape, and those handy little carrying slots, make a perfect play fortress with natural "viewing and attack portals" just big enough for a furry paw. |
