 The Future of Windows XP

Last year consumers told Microsoft they weren't quite ready to say goodbye to Windows XP. So Microsoft listened. That's why they delayed their plan to stop selling it until June 30, 2008 and plan to provide support for Windows XP until 2014.
We know there have been lots of questions-and some confusion-about their plans. Some key things you should know:

Top questions we hear about Windows XP:

1.  What will happen to Windows XP after June 30?

In industry speak, this is called "end-of-sales." On June 30, Microsoft will stop distributing Windows XP as a stand-alone product that you can buy shrink-wrapped in the stores. They will also stop sending it to Dell, HP, Lenovo and other major PC manufacturers to sell on their PCs. That said, Windows XP isn't going to disappear overnight...

TOMAR is a premier partner and reseller of Seneca Data's Nexlink Workstations and Laptops.  Seneca Data has been authorized to build computers with Vista Business and use the downgrade rights to install XP Pro until January 2009.  This way, when you are ready to upgrade to Vista, you will already own the license key to do so.

2.  My business relies on Microsoft XP.  What will happen if we have technical problems after June 30?

Although Windows XP will disappear from stores, Microsoft will continue to offer Extended Support for the operating system for six more years, until April 2014.

4 Things You Should Check
Before Buying New Computers

There are some amazing deals on PC's these days, but these "headline" deals can turn out to be very expensive indeed.  Very often users need to spend hundreds of dollars upgrading their new computer because they have been incorrectly specified in the first place.

It's much cheaper to get the specification right on day one, rather than having an upgrade performed in the workshop at a later date.

To make sure that you avoid this trap when buying a new PC make sure that you check these 4 things:

1. Get the right processor for the job.
The processor is one of the most important factors that impacts on the speed of your PC.  Low cost PC's usually have Celeron, or non Intel processors to save money.  The Celeron processor is a normal Intel processor that has been deliberately "crippled" for the entry level market.  The Celeron is fine for Internet browsing or light home use, but it starts to struggle when you have multiple applications running.  To get good performance from your new PC you should specify an Intel Core 2 Duo, or Core 2 Quad processor.  Processors are expensive to upgrade, so this is the most important decision that you will make on the specification of your new PC.  On some PC's the entire motherboard will need to be replaced just to upgrade the processor.  The average cost of upgrading a processor is between $250 and $500 including parts and labor.
