The Healing Benefits

Essential Oils and Ayurveda

You are invited to a special free evening program with David Crow, L.Ac. Mr. Crow will teach about the multiple benefits of essential oils and aromatic herbs, how they relate to Ayurveda, and their relevance to our homes and families. We will study and experience the most important of the antimicrobial oils, with emphasis on creating "community immunity" by safely using these oils in daily life.
David Crow is an acupuncturist, herbalist and expert of Ayurvedic Medicine with over twenty years experience. He is the author of the celebrated book, "In Search of the Medicine Buddha," a poetic memoir about his studies of Tibetan and Ayurvedic medicine in the Himalayas. He is the founder of The Learning Garden in Los Angeles, one of the country's largest school gardens. He is the founder of Floracopeia Aromatic Treasures company, which supports ecologically sustainable agriculture through the production of essential oils and aromatic botanical medicine.

Rasa is the juice of life, and good Rasa is an essential ingredient in a good life. Ayurveda's Watery perspective on health and healing classifies imbalances according to whether juices need to be added to or subtracted from the system. This lecture will address the question of Tarpana, or "juice management": how best to work with the juices in our lives to attain for ourselves true satisfaction.
Robert E. Svoboda is the first Westerner ever to graduate from a college of Ayurveda and be liscensed to practice Ayurveda in India. During and after his formal Ayurvedic training Robert was tutored in Ayurveda, Yoga, Jyotish, Tantra and other forms of classical Indian lore by his mentor, the Aghori Vimalananda. After living in India for more than a decade, he has continued to spend much of each year there and in other lands. The author of more than a dozen books, he serves as Adjunct Faculty for the Ayurvedic Institute in Albuquerque, for Bastyr University in Seattle, and for the Institute for Religion & Health in Houston.

Meditation Workshop

Ajayan Borys
Ajayan has been exploring and teaching a variety of meditation practices since 1970. In the early 70's, he studied in residence under Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, founder of the TM Program. After teaching TM for many years, he traveled the globe continuing an impassioned exploration of various meditation practices. Having made a study of meditation his life, and having instructed and guided thousands in meditation in North America, Australia, Europe and India, Ajayan has gained wide renown as a consummate meditation teacher.

Fall Yoga with Diana Bonyhadi
September 8 - October 16th, 2008
Diana Bonyhadi, Certified Yoga Instructor, began her yogic journey in 1995. Her style reflects her commitment to wholeness through strength, flexibility and self-awareness. Her classes draw upon the wisdom and teachings of the Hatha, Lyengar, Ayurvedic and Vinyasa Flow yoga traditions.
Vinyasa Flow Yoga-
This class carefully combines yoga asanas (postures) in a graduated sequence of rhythmic movements of body and breath to create a dynamic, challenging and meditative flow. The asanas, combined with body alignment, physical conditioning and breathing exercises (pranayama) will help you discover many paths to strength, flexibility, healing and mindfulness.
(Appropriate for beginners to the very experienced participant)
Yoga I - Introduction-
This is the perfect class for anyone interested in learning about yoga or returning to yoga. This gentle and nurturing class is designed to provide an introduction to the fundamentals of yoga. In this six week session the students will gain an understanding of the basic yoga positions, learn correct positioning and alignment, receive detailed instruction on combining breath and movement, and experience the peace and clarity of meditation.
(Upon completion, students can join in the Yoga II-III class.)
Yoga II-III -
For the strong beginner through intermediate student, this class will explore all aspects of yoga, including pranayama, asanas and meditation. Each student will be encouraged and supported to engage at their own level of skill and experience. Focus will be on alignment, technique, engagement and the deepening of the mind-body connection.
Private Therapeutic Instruction-
For those wishing to deepen their understanding of yoga on a one-to-one basis or if there is a specific health concern, this is the class for you. Start from the very beginning, deepen your existing knowledge, reach towards your edge, and/or explore more advanced techniques. Diana can work with you to develop a yoga practice which will help to heal and strengthen your body and mind as you transition from a place of dis-ease to a place of wholeness and well-being. Rev. Halima Thea Levkovitz is a Cheraga (Minister) in the Universal Worship of the Sufi Order International. A student of world faith mystical traditions for more than thirty years, she has studied with Sufi, Jewish, Christian, Buddhist, Yoga and other spiritual teachers. She guides retreats for environmental activists and was facilitator of the Partnership for Religion and the Environment.
Drawing on spiritual practices, chants, meditation, prayers and scriptures from the world's religions, we will journey together discovering the One Heart that inspired the Prophets, known and unknown, of all humankind. We will be joined by guest Rabbis, Sheiks, Shamans, and other luminary spiritual leaders in the Pacific Northwest.

Tribal Style Belly Dance Classes

September 10th - October 15th Wednesdays 6pm-7pm (6 weeks) Suitable for beginners About the class: Learn to dance by drilling the basics in fun combinations. Using both slow movements and fast steps we'll get you dancing in your first class! All basic movements and group formations in a six-week cycle including posture and body awareness, zils and music. Intro to partner and group dancing. You are welcome to drop-in on this class after the course has started as we have plenty of review built into each class. (If space is available.) However, you must arrive 10-15 minutes prior to class start.
