Greetings!
As we enter the Autumn many people will be thinking about their plans and budgets for 2009. In this edition we link you to an interview with Michael Ankers of the CPA with a view on what we can expect in the next year or two. We also direct you to a free download of the government's recently published annual statistics annual. And if you are looking for a new approach to doing business why not consider Key Account Management.
Construction Forecast

Chart Planning to attend Construction News' Forecasting Conference next week? If not, then you can get an overview of expectations by watching a video interview with Michael Ankers of the CPA. He tells us that output will drop by 1.8% in 2008 and a further 4.6% in 2009 with recovery not expected until 2011 at the earliest. On a positive note investment in health, education and transport will continue for the present.

And if you need cheering up after that, Neil Edwards of The Builders' Conference says that the number of projects submitted to tender in the first 8 months of 2008 are up 13% on the same period last year.
Free Industry Statistics

As the end of the year approaches you may be preparing budgets and forecasts, in which case a document you should have is the government's Construction Statistics Annual. This contains a wealth of information about UK construction activity, including output, price indices, industry structure and lists of PFI projects. Its free to download.
Key Account Management

KAMAs the media talks us into a recession, it is not good enough to just batten down the hatches and hope for the best - new methods of working are needed. One option to consider is Key Account Management. This is about forming close relationships with your suppliers and customers to take cost out of the supply chain and improve profitability. To learn more read my article, or attend my open training course on 5th November in London.
Effective Exhibitions

Interbuild marks the start of the exhibition season and if you are thinking about your plans for exhibitions next year, or questioning their relevance, then an evening seminar being run by CIMCIG and open to non-members, entitled Getting the most from an Exhibition may be useful. Taking place in London on 11th December, it will tell you the secrets of a successful exhibition.
