From the desk of the Executive Director

Spring is finally upon us and the President, Dr Peter Hirst and the Board of the BABCNE would like to take a minute to thank all our members for their support and commitment to the Council. We are particularly grateful to our sponsor companies, National Grid, Lloyds and the Kraematon Group, to our Chairman, Professor John Quelch, Senior Associate Dean, Harvard Business School and to Dr Phil Budden, HM Consul General and his team for their ongoing support.

With the new season, we would like to announce a number of initiatives, namely:

  • The formation of the Environment & Energy Committee, under the Chairmanship of Sandy Taft, Director, US Climate Change Policy, National Grid
  • The introduction of this e-newsletter
  • The formation of the BABCNE LinkIn and Facebook groups

Last October we launched the CEO and Financial Services series to enable members to meet leaders of industry and keep up to date with the latest financial developments. I would also like to draw your attention to our member companies listed on: www.babcne.org Their full details can be viewed on the BABC on-line Membership Directory, accessible through the password allocated to members on joining.

This first edition of the e-newsletter will concentrate on Clean Technology which is a growing source of business between the US and UK and a focus of the British Government. This month’s breakfast at the British Consulate will focus address “Smart Grid – what it means to you and your business”. A modernized electricity network is being promoted by a number of governments, including the US and UK, as a way of addressing energy independence and global warming issues. This program will be followed by a Financial Briefing on May 7 by Alliance Bernstein which will address the positive side of our business environment “Global Credit: Extraordinary Window of Opportunity”.

Our thanks to Tim Foley of Tim Foley Studios, for the design of this newsletter and for taking on the Editorial role.

We look forward to welcoming you!
