We are particularly grateful to our sponsor companies, National Grid, Lloyds and the Kraematon Group, to our Chairman, Professor John Quelch, Senior Associate Dean, Harvard Business School and to Dr Phil Budden, HM Consul General and his team for their ongoing support. With the new season, we would like to announce a number of  initiatives, namely:

              Director, US Climate Change Policy, National Grid	The introduction of this e-newsletter	The formation of the BABCNE LinkIn and Facebook groups  Last October we launched the CEO and Financial Services series to enable members to meet leaders of industry and keep up to date with the latest financial developments. I would also like to draw your attention to our member companies listed on: www.babcne.org Their full details can be viewed on the BABC on-line Membership Directory, accessible through the password allocated to members on  joining. This first edition of the e-newsletter will concentrate on Clean Technology which is a growing source of business between the US and UK and a focus of the British Government. This month’s breakfast at the British Consulate will focus address “Smart Grid – what it means to you and your business”.  A modernized electricity network is being promoted by a number of governments, including the US and UK, as a way of addressing energy independence and global warming issues. This program will be followed by a Financial Briefing on May 7 by Alliance Bernstein which will address the positive side of our business environment “Global Credit: Extraordinary Window of Opportunity”. This issue’s Q&A focuses on the BABC Exchange Visitor Program – J1Visa. This column will be a regular feature and you are welcome to send in your questions to the editor.  National Grid USA's five utility subsidiaries deliver electricity to 3.4 million customers in a 29,000-sq.-mi. service area listed above. The company also provides telecommunications infrastructure services through its National Grid Wireless subsidiary. National Grid USA is a subsidiary of UK-based electricity and gas transmission company National Grid (formerly National Grid Transco).   The company has filed a proposal to build and operate a smart grid pilot project in Worcester, Mass.
