Professional Photographers of Los Angeles County
REFLECTOR JUNE 2012

Greetings!

I had the pleasure recently of attending the Richard Sturdevant workshop, hosted by GCPPA.

Richard's work is absolutely fantastic. If you get the chance to attend one of his workshops --don't hesitate, just "DO IT". I can guarantee that you will come away with so much knowledge it will be mind-boggling.

Richard started off by showing off his absolutely stunning work. He does a lot of collages of high school seniors, and is currently making a fortune. I had an incredible day, learned a lot, and  have created a piece that my client fell in love with. I'm looking forward to using more of Richard's techniques. Richard will be teaching at West Coast School in June.

On another note, don't miss George DeLoache's upcoming portraiture workshop hosted by PPLAC at George's new studio  in downtown L.A.

Congratulations to all participants from the last month's Digital Photographic Competition. If you didn't enter or attend, you missed a lot of wonderful critiques and education. Bravo to all those who merited!

Happy shooting!
Bob Young

We have a Lightroom Genius in our midst.  Congratulations to PPLAC 2nd VP Marcia Gold.  She is now an official Adobe Certified Expert (ACE) in Lightroom, and can teach the application to everyone from beginners to expert!

Warmest congratulations to Julian Climaco, the 'face' of longtime PPLAC sponsor PCL West, on his recent retirement. Julian worked tirelessly since 1993 as sales manager for the Gardena company, becoming a friend to many of us. 65 year old Julian isn't slowing down!  He's filling his days spending time with his family (including three grand kids), improving his golf game, and, of course, shooting.

Kudos to PPLAC Board Member Liz Chalmers. Her architectural images were featured last month in South Bay Digs Magazine, The Easy Reader, and The Beach Reporter.  The spread was for the 39th annual Sophisticated Snoops Home Tour, a fundraiser for American Martyrs School.  Liz volunteers her photographic talents to the organization.

Congratulations to fundraising chairperson Jim Akers, who received the following awards in the spring Santa Clarita Valley Photography Association print competition:

1st place and a merit for photojournalism
1st and 2nd place for macro-close up
2 merits in landscape
