 PPLAC REFLECTOR AUGUST 2010

Greetings!

If you didn't get to our Digital Print Competition in July, you missed out on a major milestone in PPLAC's continued evolution as we work to continuously improve the value that we deliver to our members. Consistent with our mission statement: "Advancing professional photographic excellence and leadership with the highest standards of ethical practices through networking and world-class education", July's Digital Print Competition took our organization to the next level as our judges (Anne Hutton, Dea Meyer and Tim Meyer) provided valuable feedback on all 75 of the images that were submitted. Many thanks to our Print Comp co-chairs, Irene Benavente and Bob Young, along with the rest of our "behind-the-scenes" team (Karen Nakamura and Sharon Lobel) for helping to make this event a huge success.

Regards,
Jim Brammer
PPLAC President

September Meeting - GIL GARCETTI
Thursday, September 23

Gil has spent much of his life as an urban photographer. His first photo book, IRON: ERECTING THE WALT DISNEY CONCERT HALL, November 2002, received much critical praise in the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, and other publications. The photographs emphasize the contribution of the ironworkers to the building of America as well as the beauty of the curved, angled, and bent steel of this building.

PPLAC Board Member Jim Akers also got 'focused' on in the Spring, 2010 Issue of Monmouth University Magazine.  The article about Akers-- a graduate of the Long Branch, New Jersey school--  spotlighted his move from corporate American exec to professional photographer.   Award-winning photographs including "Getty Fire",  which garnered Akers first place in Photojournalism from the Santa Clarita Valley Photography Association, were mentioned in the story.
