Greetings!
Jim portrait
As I write this many of you are in Las Vegas taking advantage of the wonderful learning opportunities at WPPI. The best way to stay ahead of the competition is to be relentless about improving your skills, which increases the value that you deliver to your Clients.  To that end, your PPLAC Board of Directors met in early January for a strategic planning session. One of the key deliverables from that session was a mission/vision statement, which will guide everything we do going forward.

Since it defines the essence of what we are as an organization, we have chosen to place this statement on the home page of our Web site.  I hope that you will find it useful as you grow your business:

PPLAC Mission: To advance photographic excellence and leadership with the highest standards of professionalism through networking and world class education
Vision: Become the go-to resource for professional and aspiring photographers in the Greater Los Angeles area.
Core Values: Integrity, respect and professionalism
Strategy: Continuously improve the value that we deliver to our members

Your Board of Directors at PPLAC is comprised entirely of volunteers who give tirelessly of their time to make PPLAC a better organization.  Please join me in thanking them for everything that they do.

Vine viewing is from 9 AM to 5 PM.  First time choice for PPLAC is 10 AM.  The second time choice is 2 PM. No guarantees on either time so watch for notices of the exact time.  Flexibility is necessary.

The festival also includes more than 150 crafters, Live Music and a food court at the Park nearby or other "local" eateries.

Sierra Madre is called the "Village of the Foothills".  The wistaria  dates back 115 years.  Today the wistaria covers over one acre of land.  Guiness Book of World Records has named the vine the world's largest flowering plant.  At the height of the bloom, the vine has 1.5 million blooms with 40 blossoms per square foot.

Car Pooling: Those far from Sierra Madre should consider car pooling. Check the list of who is going and call a member!

From Zero to Hero...

This month PPLAC's very own Jim Brammer is launching a speaking program called "From Zero to Hero - How to Brand, Market and Grow Your Photography Business", wherein he discusses how he built his business since becoming a full-time professional photographer in 2007.

As a photographer, you probably have the creative/artistic side of the business nailed - right? If you're shooting great work and your clients love it, what more do you need? Well - if you are as busy as you want to be, then maybe that's all you really need. On the other hand, if you'd like to get busier-- this is the program for you!  Jim's "From Zero to Hero" program explores the business of professional photography from a marketing and sales perspective. You will learn about:

Branding - it's much more than simply coming up with a name for your business.
Marketing - once you've got the brand, how do create awareness of the brand in your community?
Growing - as your brand becomes known in the community, how do you turn "mind share" into "market share"?
