Swap Meet

Don't forget bring your good quality photo equipment to the swap meet held during our meetings.  No charge.

Guests can buy but need to pay an entry fee of $20 if they wish to sell anything.  If you are looking for a particular item and want to get it out to the membership use PPLAC's Facebook site and post what you need.  Someone may have the item and would want to sell it.  When selling items it helps to have an index card next to the item with the price and your name.  Also, if you really want to show that you are competitive bring a recent Craigslist  or on-line seller like B and H price list etc.

Here are some ground rules:

1) PPLAC members may buy and sell personally-owned items for free as a benefit of membership
2) Non-members may buy for free, but must pay $20 to offer personally-owned items for sale
3) This swap meet is for personally-owned items only.  Commercial goods and services may be sold at PPLAC meetings only by speakers and sustaining members.
4) All items should be labeled with the seller's name, asking price and any other information you feel would add value or help you sell your item
5) No junk - please sell with integrity

Tip: Bring comparable prices from major companies such as Adorama, Abe's of Maine, B&H, Samy's or Craigslist to make it easy for your "customer" to see the value of your item and what a deal they are getting.

Greetings!

I can't believe that the holiday season is here again.  How did this happen so quickly?  I'm getting the usual last-minute Client requests for cards and portrait sessions - don't you just love it?  As we shoot the last of those holiday sessions and prepare the cards that will need to be expedited (if we can get them printed in time at all??) I want to take a moment to wish you and yours a joyous and blessed holiday season, and a happy, healthy New Year!  I look forward to seeing you all at our Annual Open House and Member Exhibition on January 28.

November Speaker Review - Sam Gardner
"Lighting is Exciting!"

Sam G
Sam Gardner demonstrates lighting ratios.

November's speaker, Sam Gardner, brought us "Lighting is Exciting".  To say that Sam "gets it" is an understatement - his images have been in many PPA national print competition Loan or Showcase collections and are often used in PPA promotional materials.

Sam talked about the "quality" of light, demonstrated lighting ratios (would you believe he cut up sticky notes and stuck them on his face?), showed "masculine" and "feminine" lighting and posing, illustrated use of the "edge" of  light in studio and on location, and provided a summary handout along with keys to successfully completing the CPP exam.

Many thanks to Sam and his sponsor, Millers Professional Imaging Lab, for bringing this entertaining and highly educational program to PPLAC.

WEST COAST SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIPS

Professional Photographers of California's West Coast School has full and half scholarships available for its summer 2010 session... but you have to apply by January 15th!   Most of the scholarships are for PPC photographers, but several target phtographers' assistants and office staff personnel.  For more information and the application, go to http://prophotoca.com/wcs/scholarship.html.

There's another way to land a West Coast School scholarship for tuition to a week-long summer class.  Attend PPLAC's January open house, and buy raffle tickets for our scholarship drawing.  They're $5 per ticket or 5 for $25 for PPLAC members.  Guests can get tickets for $10 each or 3 for $25.

Thank You to Amy Cantrell

Several months ago, PPLAC's very own Amy Canrell stepped in to fill a speaking slot that opened up due to a last-minute cancellation.  At the November General Meeting, PPLAC's Board presented Amy with a "thank you" gift - a beautiful jewelery box generously donated by Sharon Lobel, PPLAC's Treasurer.  Many thanks to both Amy and Sharon!
