Venue Needed for Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep Training

Leila Jones, area coordinator for Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep (NILMDTS), is looking for someone willing to donate the use of a venue in Los Angeles County to hold a one-day NILMDTS training session. She needs space for at least 25 people with room for a projector and screen (she will provide the projector and screen), and a PA system would be a plus but not mandatory.  Examples of good venues are photographer's studios, churches, hotel meeting rooms, etc.  If you can provide a venue, or know of someone who can, please contact Leila directly at leila@leilajones.com

NILMDTS - www.NILMDTS.org - is a non-profit network of volunteer professional photographers who provide a helping hand and a healing heart to families who suffer the loss of a baby at birth or soon after. Volunteer photographers provide gentle, compassionate photographic services that allow families to honor and cherish their babies and to share the spirit of their lives.

IMAGE COMPETITION
"DIGICOM"

JULY 23rd

Reminder:
July's competition will be an all digital image competition.

Free Digital Image Critique
Send files to Jim Selkin. He and other Judges will critique your images to help you get higher scores.
jzs529@earthlink.com

Due to the number of images submitted, PLEASE ARRIVE EARLY.  Judging will begin promptly at 7:30 p.m., print registration begins at 7pm.

DIGITAL SUBMISSIONS should follow same size guidelines as prints: finished canvas 16x20; image not less than 11x14. Suggested at least 300 dpi.

Category winners will have to submit a 16x20 final print to be awarded the merit in October as well as for consideration as Photographer of the Year. Adjustments based on judges "suggestions" can then be applied for final printing. For those who do not merit and or want to increase their ultimate print score, adjustments will be a lot easier.

Files should be on thumb drive or DVD and can be in .psd; .tif or if you want .jpg format. They should be labeled with picture title, category and last name. Use underscores.
example: Bridge_to_Nowhere_landscape_Selkin.tif

Same $5.00 fee structure applies per entry

PATRICIA MATHIS

AUGUST 27TH
GENERAL MEETING

Did you ever look at a great image and know that it could not have possibly been shot that way in the camera but you just could not figure out what the artist did?

Do you ever find yourself looking at one of your "raw" images on the computer and wondering where to begin? How to get from capture to completion - and do it without using up a year of your life?!

PPA Master Photographer Patricia Mathis was trained as a traditional artist before becoming an award-winning photographer. In this inspirational seminar, Patricia will teach you to "see" the completed image in your mind's
eye before you even start and how training your eye to "see" in this way can set you apart from the competition. Once you have trained your eye, you can also train your clients to "see" the same way so they can appreciate the skill it takes to create truly extraordinary images.

Understanding and applying the elements and
principles of Design

Once you have trained your eye, you can
also train your clients to "see" the same way so they can appreciate the skill it takes to create truly extraordinary images.

Using interactive lectures and discussions, Patricia's workshop will walk you through the basic elements and principles of design as she examines artwork from many well-known artists. You will learn to "see" what those
artists saw and better understand the process of creation to improve the artistic value of your final images.

Patricia will show you how to transform a great capture into a work of fine art by demonstrating post-production techniques in Photoshop and NiK Software. The intent of this workshop is not to teach "Photoshop tips and
tricks", but you will learn some very effective and efficient tips when retouching images. We will not be photographing in class so no need to bring your camera but feel free to bring your computer and Patricia will provide a "control" set of images that the class can work on as a group.

Space is limited. Register today!
