President's Message

Phew! We are finally done with all the photo shoots and hope to have the calendar printed sometime this month. Pre-orders are available online under CA Council 2011. We really need everyone's help in selling these calendars as we still have quite a bit of money to raise for 2011.

Several of us are headed to Regional this week which is being held in Sonoma, California. We are all really excited and I am sure there will be a lot to tell when we get back!

Our very own Pam Legge was the speaker for the January dinner meeting on the topic of the Health Care Bill. Pam did an excellent job of explaining the bill and the issues that are associated with it. If you weren't able to attend I suggest you ask a fellow member for their notes because you will learn a lot.

I look forward to seeing you all next month.

Membership News -
Dani McBride & Kathleen Kerstenbeck

We're in the second half of our fiscal year for SDIW!  In keeping with our mantra of "every member bring a member" we are hosting a membership drive/mixer on March 21 at the Doubletree Club in Mission Valley.  To make it fun, we're also having a wine tasting.  Prospective members will learn about NAIW and the benefits it holds for employers in addition to the networking possibilities for employees. Please start thinking about your friends in the industry who you would like to invite.  An email blast and flyer with more information will be coming soon!  You may want to also think about some of your industry-related vendors.  As a reminder, our membership eligibility has been expanded.  Below is directly from the NAIW site:

Education Update - Ruth Hinckfuss

Ruth H

I hope the first month of the year has treated you very well.

I have two things to share with you this month regarding education.

First... we are gearing up for our CWC class and this is a quick call out to see how many participants we might have.

If you or anyone you know has interest in taking our Confidence While Communicating (CWC) class, please send an e-mail to ruthw74@hotmail.com.  Remember it's a 10 week course and will most likely be held in the Mission Valley area... maybe we can get a room in the UTC area (still to be determined).

Second...  I received the following opportunity from NAIW National that I wanted to share with you:

The National Alliance for Insurance Education and Research has authorized the creation of a referral program specifically designed for the National Association of Insurance Women. This one-of-a-kind program will offer the world class education, professional development and CE credits you need, through instructors who are practitioners of insurance - not professional speakers, at a cost savings we have not seen before.

When an NAIW member, who is also a CISR, brings a "new participant" to a CISR core course and they both complete it, the "CISR" will receive A FULL SCHOLARSHIP" to use toward their next CISR update. In essence, you the CISR would receive, based on your membership in NAIW, two updates for the price of one!

Due to the long standing relationship and support between NAIW and The National Alliance, we are able to offer this new and exciting program in California.

Referral forms can be located on the National Alliance website.

If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Rob Weidert, CIC at the National Alliance at 760-693-3626 or

rweidert@scic.com

or Kathleen Soares, CIC, AAI, AIS, CPIW, DAE from the CA Council of NAIW at

mollykat50@earthlink.net. More information is available on the the National Alliance website at

www.scic.com and CA Council of NAIW at www.cacouncilnaiw.com on the Education page.

Thank you and may your year continue on a successful path to learning!!!
