If you missed the September meeting then you really missed out. Patricia Wenskunas, CEO of Crime Survivors, was inspirational speaker whose story touched us all deeply. Thank you everyone who donated items for her backpacks I know she really appreciated it. I encourage you to check out their site and learn more if you were not able to attend. The website is www.crimesurvivors.com.
September 24th and 25th was our California Council Meeting, put on by South Bay Insurance Women, held in Torrance, CA. Our very own Kathleen Kerstenbeck is the current CA Council Director and she did an excellent job at leading the meetings. Part of her goals as the Director was to raise $250 for the Legacy Foundation. In order to do this we set up a jail during the Welcome party and members paid to put other members in jail and then you had to pay to get bailed. Everyone had a blast doing this and we were able to raise more than $400 for the Legacy Foundation...Go Kathleen!
Ruth Hinkfuss represented us in the CWC speak off at council and she did an excellent job! We were all very proud of her.
This month is our annual Birthday Meeting. I am very excited to announce that our Regional Vice President Palmer Reilly and her assistant Marian Lane will be in attendance. This would be an excellent meeting for "Every Member to Bring a Member".

Hard to believe we are already heading in to the fall season of 2010! With the birthday dinner on October 18th, what better time to invite that friend or co-worker to a night of not only fellowship, but valuable information. We have invited a representative of the Susan G. Komen foundation to talk to us about Breast Cancer awareness as well as some of the side effects from the chemotherapy. It's time to look forward to our 3rd Annual Glow Ball Golf Tournament on Friday October 15th. This event will help us raise money for our charities, Rachel's House & Project InVest (OPT). This is such a fun event so get your friends and coworkers together and get your registrations in. Donations are still welcome for the goodie bags. You can contact Pam Legge in regards to that at plegge@bbandt.com.
On another note, I just returned from my 1st California Council Meeting. For those of you who have never been, it was amazing! I think I was expecting a small vacation but these ladies keep you moving. Being a first timer was such a great experience and we were encouraged to get involved and become acquainted with some inspiring and knowledgeable insurance professionals from throughout all of California, we took some great workshops, attended business sessions and of course, dinner & dancing nightly. Many thanks to the South Bay chapter of NAIW for hosting the meeting and of course, Kathleen who was our Council Director for this event.
While at this council meeting, we also did our rebid for the 2011 CA Council meeting that SDIW is hosting. We got dressed up in feather boas and put on flashing diamonds and did a little skit. It was great. So, we will definitely need help and involvement in raising money for the 2011 council meeting. Please let me know of any ideas you may have....or if you have any questions.

Deadline date for International Positions extended to December 3, 2010
In this age of e-mail and instant messaging, we determined that the deadline date for submitting a candidate form for Council positions could be extended to 30 days prior to the Council meeting. This was communicated to our Councils in August. With that same thought in mind, we are extending the deadline date for submitting candidate forms for International Positions to the first Friday in December which is the 3rd this year. These deadline dates were established when communication was only done via snail mail. We also had to allow enough time for the candidates to respond to an essay question that is published in the spring issue of "Today's Insurance Professionals".
Again, with today's technology, we have more flexibility with that deadline date. Please contact me or Mark Adams if you have any questions.

Each year at the CA Council meeting, there is a silent auction. Each association contributes something to the auction. The money goes toward the CA Council Awards Fund. This was our contribution designed by Dani McBride.

CA Council 2011 Planning Committee
We had our second planning meeting on Tuesday 9/28. It's not too late to join a committee! If you like to plan events, fund raise then this is right up your alley! Please contact either Dani or Kathleen if you'd like to help. Please keep in mind that if you are contacted by someone, they really do need your help and they thought of your specific talent as someone who could lend a hand. It would be great if we can all come together as a group and really knock this thing out of the park. We have had a strong start. Our dates and venue are set. The big thing at this point is fund raising, and we're starting to make headway on all the details. We have loads of great ideas for fund raising, but can always use help on more ideas and the execution of the events. Let us know if you'd like to help.

Dani
