Fall Streamer Fishing on the Bighorn!

Fort Smith, Montana

When the calendar hits mid November, many anglers start to let their minds wander to other pursuits. Bird hunting, fantasy football, fly tying to name just a few. Others get streamer fever and if the conditions cooperate, the reward can be great!

This year our shop outing was to the Bighorn River in Fort Smith Montana. Of course it is November in Montana so one is gambling a bit with the weather but we pride ourselves on having the right gear to fight the cold and wind. Expecting the worst and hoping for the best, we were rewarded with mostly ideal conditions. The weather was mostly in the 40's and partly sunny and the wind was not much of a factor.

When throwing streamers in the fall an angler should be aggressive with his/her casts and should not be afraid to try different flies. The 2011 Bighorn adventure produced some great fish, mostly right off the bank (hence the be aggressive part). We had some luck on olive Zoo Cougars, Orange Blossom Specials, and even zonker patterns, but when all was said and done the old standby did the trick: The Black Wooly Bugger.  The fishing was fantastic, especially just before dark. The moral of the story is don't overlook fall fishing, you may need a couple extra layers but it's worth it! If you need any advice or assistance in finding a place to stay in Fort Smith, driving directions or fly patterns to take please let us know!

Great New Gear for the Holidays!
Give the Gift of Anglers All

In our quest for the best selection possible, and as major gear junkies ourselves, we have continued to add some great new brands to the mix here at the shop.

In addition, there are always a handful of new things from the manufacturers you know and love that show up just in time for the holidays. Shocking, I know...

Yeti Coolers
are here in force! We have a very solid selection of Tundra and Roadie models from Yeti. If you have yet to see these babies, check them out online, or come on down to the shop for a demo. They are by far the best thing to happen to coolers since ice.

They are certified as bear-proof and their one-piece, roto-molded polyethylene construction and ample insulation means that they keep contents cold for longer than any other cooler.

Nomad Nets are made from carbon fiber and fiberglass. The result is a very lightweight and extremely durable net. No more breakage when walking through willows, stepping into the boat, or netting fish covered in weeds.

Nomad nets are built for the conditions that prevail where great fishing exists; they are waterproof, UV protected, and float like a cork. Nomad nets come standard with a rubber bag.

We have three new models here at the shop. The Guide, Mid-length and Hand models cover everything from drift boat use to backcountry pack net.

Check them out online by clicking here.

We also have a good selection of the newest fly rod models from two of our key manufacturers - Sage and Scott. The new Sage One Rod Series came out to much press, and deservedly so! These rods were built with casting accuracy as the driving principle, and boy do they deliver! We just received a shipment to round out the length and line-weight offering, so if you have yet to test-drive these, come on down now and do so!

Scott Fly Rods from Montrose, Colorado recently introduced their new A4 Series. These rods come to us with the signature un-sanded graphite finish that Scott is known for as well as way more performance than you would expect from a $375 fly rod. They are wonderful mid-level fly rods and make amazing gifts for the aspiring fly angler.

There are many other new and exciting products that will arrive before the holidays, so make sure to keep you eyes on the website, and don't forget to check out the Gift Section online for more shopping ideas!

Thanks for taking the time to read this update, and for your continued support of the shop!

Sincerely,

Chris Keeley
