Welcome to Fiber Optics in the Enterprise, a newsletter published by the Fiber Optics LAN Section (FOLS) of the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA). Our mission as a trade organization is to help educate end users and design consultants about the technical advantages and affordability that optical transmission can bring to local area networks and fiber-to-the-desk applications.

If you are receiving this newsletter, it is because you have requested information from us or downloaded our Cost Model. Our newsletter is designed to keep you apprised of recent developments in the industry, never to promote a specific company or product. However, if you prefer not to receive it, please let us know and we will remove you from our mailing list.

FOLS Elects New Officers

Rodney Casteel, Global Fiber Applications Manager, CommScope Enterprise Solutions Group, will lead the FOLS as Chair in 2008.

"Today, more than ever, users and network designers need a resource like the Fiber Optics LAN Section to offer a vendor-neutral technology-based perspective on the advantages of deploying fiber in customer-owned networks," said Casteel. "Interest in fiber for enterprise applications is very strong, driven by advances in the fiber-to-the-home market and increasing demand for bandwidth in the enterprise. FOLS is a blanced organization beause many of our member companies offer both fiber and copper solutions, and our focus is on finding those applications where fiber is the right choice."

Other officers elected include:

Vice Chair: Andrew Oliviero, OFS

Communications Co-Chairs: Alexandra Manning, Sumitomo Electric Lightwave and Marybeth Marx, Ortronics/Legrand

Membership Chair: Alfred Flores, Berk-Tek, a Nexans Company

Standards Chair: Herb Congdon, Tyco Electronics
