Keep It Local
|
Support Small Businesses - No other season reflects the
power of the dollar quite as clearly as the
holidays. In fact, many retailers
count on holiday sales for as much as 40% of their
annual revenue. Where you choose to do your
shopping makes a big difference. Why
support Dedham Square businesses this holiday
season? It's good for you, and it's good for
the economy. Making just a 10
percent shift in your spending can have a big
impact.
Chew on this... National awareness and support of the new "3/50 Project" is quickly gaining. The concept is simple: Pick 3 independently owned businesses you'd miss if they disappeared. Direct $50 of your monthly spending to these merchants. Your purchases are what keeps these businesses around.

News Circling the Square
|
Holiday Stroll a Big Success! Hundreds of people flocked to the Square last Friday night for the Dedham Square Circle's 5th Annual Holiday Stroll. Merchants stayed open late with special offers while Oldies 103, a singing Santa, roving carolers and a life-size Frosty attracted large crowds. Click here to read the front page article in yesterday's Dedham Transcript.
If you had pictures taken with Santa by photographer Teja Arboleda the night of the stroll, stop by The Studio at 565 High Street (at the back of Cafe Video Paradiso) to pick up your 4x6 print, and a 10% discount on your next
professional portrait photograph with Teja.
Sign of the Times - a beautiful new hand carved sign will welcome visitors to Dedham Square thanks to the efforts of the Dedham Square Circle and Dedham Civic Pride in partnership with the Town of Dedham. The handsome black sign with gold leaf lettering will soon be installed at one of the Square's most prominent gateways, at the corner of Eastern Avenue and Providence Highway. The area will be professionally landscaped next Spring and will feature an array of plantings. Stay tuned for more details!
What Time Is It? Time to celebrate! Today at noon, Dedham Civic Pride will dedicate the new beautiful antique replica clock in the Square, located at the intersection of High and Harris Streets. The clocks sponsors, including the Dedham Square Circle, and the public are invited to the dedication which will include lite refreshments, holiday music provided by the Dedham High School Brass Ensemble.
This celebration also marks the end to the High Street Bridge Construction Project. What was once an area lined with orange barrels, construction debris and traffic detours is now a beautiful streetscape. The parking lot at the corner of High and Eastern Ave., across from the new clock, offers ample parking and is just a hop skip and a jump from your favorite shops, restaurants and the theatre.
Cool Tunes - congratulations to the members of Magic Magic for the nomination of their song "Sleepy Lion" for song of the year at the 2009 Boston Music Awards. Four band members - Mike Hlady, John Murphy, Brendan Hughes and Dylan Gough - are Dedham High grads. They performed last Spring at the Dedham Square Music Fest and have a huge fan base around the globe! We hope they'll return for an encore performance at MusicFest 2010 next June!
Wardle's Expands - the oldest operating business in the Square is opening a second location! Wardle's owner Peter Levangie shared with us that they'll operate a satellite store at the Newbridge on the Charles complex, the new Hebrew Senior Life retirement community located on West Street. Congratulations to Peter and his staff, we wish them continued success in their new location!
