Rabbi Rennert with Richmond
Happy Rosh Hashana from WITS!   Last Elul, Sholom Richmond was in the WITS Weekly pictured learning in the WITS Bais Medrash (picture on left).  This Elul, he made it again!  This time he made it as a chasan, as he returned to Milwaukee for Sheva Brachos of his recent marriage to Tziporah Rennert.  I would say the dancing at WITS for his Sheva Brachos was a notch above the regular Rosh Chodesh party.

iPod Shuffle BLueiAlumni Scholarship Campaign 2008-2009
The Alumni Scholarship Campaign for 2008-2009 is underway.  Alumni have given approximately $20,000 since August and the goal is $150,000 by August of 2009.  There are three funds to give to that support scholarship: The Adina Kader Scholarship Fund, The Debbie Rennert Scholarship Fund, and the Alumni Scholarship Fund.  Please make your alumni contribution for the year and decide how to designate it and support WITS' present and future.  Please support our goals and the initiative to increase the amount of monthly giving members from 47 to 75 by the end of the year. The donation page can be found here. Make a one-time donation or monthly at the site.  Before Rosh Hashana is a great time, as Teshuva, Tefillah, U'Tzedakah help us get a decree for a good year.  And sign up for the monthly at $25 or more and WITS will send you the latest iPOD Shuffle engraved with a message from the WITS Alumni Association. If you are already on the monthly, increase $25 or more to receive your iPOD Shuffle. Contact me at alumni@witsyeshiva.com for more info.

Chuck made his first appearance of his life in New York for the wedding of Sholom Richmond and Tziporah Rennert, and had a great time.  He hopes that he didn't break any ribs from the hugs he received from alumni.

A Letter from a WITS Alumnus- If this happened to you, e-mail me your new address at alumni@witsyeshiva.com

Hi Rabbi Jay,
It was weird talking to all the WITS guys about Rosh Hashana this year. The reason this was so is because they were saying how awesome it is that they all got honey sent to them from WITS. Well I could not believe it. All these guys who went to WITS with me got honey! Where was mine? What a sad story isn't it?
Thank you so much for all you do for WITS and the alumni!
May you and your family and all the WITS family have a Happy Sweet New Year!

The Yalkut Shimoni in Parshas Nitzavim(247) says in Devarim 29:11"to make a bris with Hashem:Hashem made three covenants with the Jews, one after they left Mitzrayim, one in Chorev, and one now (after the golden calf) because the covenant made in Chorevv was nullified when they said by the golden calf 'These are G-ds of Israel', therefore Hashem made a new covenant."  The Rosh Yeshiva ZT"L asked that there are pesukim that prove that the old covenants were never nullifired, so why was the new third covenant necessary.  The Rosh Yeshiva ZT"L answered that what the Medrash means is that since Klal Yisroel thought that the old covenant made in Chorev was nullified, Hashem made a new one.  Still, there is question that needs to be asked with this explanation...e-mail me at alumni@witsyeshiva.com with the question. - Jay Hellman
