TORAH STIMULUS
Congress recently passed a bill that would provide significant tax rebates to members of the Middle Class as part of an Economic Stimulus Package. Checks are expected to be coming in May. The package will pay $600 to most individual taxpayers and $1,200 to married taxpayers filing joint returns, so long as they are below income caps of $75,000 for individuals and $150,000 for couples. There is also a $300 per child tax credit.
The government saw that a "booster shot" was necessary for the economy, and at break-neck speed developed an idea to stimulate the economy.
I walk around the building looking through the classroom windows and see talmidim
engrossed in Torah. I see Rebbeim enthusiastically giving over teachings as they have been doing for years. I frequently speak to former talmidim and get a clear impression that they absorbed a lot of Torah and values in their years here. I hope to soon make available current shmuzim from WITS Rebbeim.
We are currently living in a generation with so many great organizations and causes to give to that many of us have depleted our Maaser money. The Economic Stimulus provides us with an opportunity to Stimulate Torah. You can use this unexpected income to continue to stimulate Torah in WITS Talmidim. The scholarship money that alumni contribute makes a big difference in giving many the opportunity to learn Torah at WITS.
I urge you to act at the same breakneck speed that the government did in enacting this bill. Please e-mail me at alumni@witsyeshiva.com with your commitment to Torah Stimulus.
