The Hall of State

The Hall of State is currently closed for renovations. The renovation process is scheduled to be completed August 2009. Our events, however, will continue. Our Brown Bag lectures and other events will be held at different locations until later this year. We will make every effort to inform our members and the public through our newsletter and website. Thank you for your patience.
Notice: Due to Hall of State renovations, the G.B. Dealey Research Library is currently closed. We are currently packing and moving our archive to a temporary location and hope to reopen to researchers in February, 2009. The Dallas Historical Society's 2009 Brown Bag Lecture Series
Due to the renovation of the Hall of State, all eight lectures will be held in the Clampitt Paper's Creative Center. The Creative Center is located at Clampitt Paper's headquarters, 9207 Ambassador Row, Dallas, TX 75247. Click here for directions. February 11th: The History of White Rock Lake.

Join us at 12 PM (noon) on the second Wednesday of every month as the DHS explores a variety of different topics about local and state history. The Spring 2009 Historic City Tour Season is about to begin! Starting this March, The Dallas Historical Society is offering a wide range of brand new tours to places we've never visited before! From Historic Dallas Neighborhoods to Waxahachie, from Grapevine to Ft. Worth! So, hop on the bus and let us do the driving as we explore the rich history of Dallas and North Texas! March 2009 Tours include: Discovering Dallas' Historic Neighborhoods Date: Saturday, March 7th, 2009 Tour Leaves: 9 AM Tour Returns: 2 PM Tour Guide: Mike Hazel Cost: $50/non members, $40/members Pick up/Drop off Location: The Hall of State in Fair Park (3939 Grand Avenue, Dallas, Texas 75210) Lunch: Dixie House, Lakewood This tour will take you through many of Dallas' historic and preservation districts including: Deep Ellum, South Dallas (South Blvd., Park Row, Queen City, etc.), the Cedars, Oak Cliff, Uptown, Old East Dallas, Munger Place, Swiss Avenue, Hollywood Heights and Santa Monica, Lakewood and the "M" Streets - just to name a few. You will learn about how the neighborhoods came into existence, who planned them and when. Some of the neighborhoods are very well known, while others are lesser-known residential jewels that make up the city. PLACES OF THE HEART...WAXAHACHIE! We will visit the Ellis County Museum, take a driving tour of the area's Victorian and Gingerbread houses and see the downtown square and its famous courthouse. WACO TOUR

We will explore this central Texas town by visiting the Chisholm Trail, Branch Davidian Compound, the site of the 1896 staged Katy Railroad train collision "Crash at Crush", the old Waco suspension bridge and much, much more! COWTOWN TOUR Date: Saturday, March 28th, 2009 Tour Leaves: 9 AM Tour Returns: Between 2 and 3 PM Tour Guide: Ken Holmes Cost: $50/non members, $40/members Pick up/Drop off Location: The Hall of State in Fair Park (3939 Grand Avenue, Dallas, Texas 75210) Lunch: Riscky's BBQ Live in Dallas, but never venture over to Ft. Worth? Let us take you there! Enjoy a drive with Ken Holmes through downtown Ft. Worth, see the herd pass by on their daily cattle drive through the Stockyards, visit the famous Billy Bob's and eat good 'ole Texas BBQ along the way.
