PTA Installs New Benches At Strandwood
Thanks to the generosity of the Strandwood parent community, the PTA purchased and installed three new benches around the campus, all built with recycled materials. Two benches are located on the primary playground under the solar structures and the other is in the quad area outside A-1. Special thanks to Jessie Thomas who spearheaded the project.

Millennium Mile is Saturday
From Strandwood.mdusd.org

The MDUSD 12th Annual Millennium Mile Track Meet is this Saturday, May 19th at Ygnacio Valley High School. It begins at 8:00 AM. We are so proud of our Strandwood students who qualified to attend this event by having the fastest personal mile times at their grade level. It is an exceptional accomplishment as all the 4th and 5th grade students practice all year to improve their times with the bonus of improving their cardio vascular fitness!

The Strandwood students are:

4th Grade girl: Payton H. Qualifying time: 7:00

4th Grade boy: Israel C. Qualifying time: 6:52

5th Grade girl: Robyn T. Qualifying time 7:11

5th Grade boy: Isaac B. Qualifying time: 6:51

Join us on Saturday morning as we cheer our "Roadrunners" on! Yea Roadrunners!

Important Volunteer Information

Anyone working with students must be fingerprinted by the Mt. Diablo School District and have a negative TB test on file. Your fingerprinting remains valid for the duration of your volunteering within the school district. How do you get fingerprinted? Evidence of a negative tuberculosis test done within the last 60 days must be provided to the Personnel Office at the time of your scheduled fingerprint appointment. TB clearance remains valid for 4 years  The TB test spans 2 or 3 days so don't leave it to the day before your fingerprinting date.

Read And Dream Logs Due Friday
By Jennie Dye

May is the last month to earn a book for this school year.  The due date for reading logs this month is Friday, May 25th.

Please take the time to fill out a reading log with your child.  If you need a new reading log you can print one from the Strandwood website (you'll find the Read and Dream section under PTA).  You can also pick a log up in the office.

It is hard to see the disappointment on the kids faces who did not get a log turned in.  On the other hand it is wonderful to see the excitement on the students faces when they get to select a book!

SPECIAL END OF THE YEAR AWARD

Any classrooms that have 100% participation this month will win double books.  If all the students in a class read their minutes and turn in a log each student in the class will get to pick out two books.

We hope to have lots of readers this month!!  Keep on reading!!!

Student Information Forms Available Now

Providing your child with the most appropriate classroom placement in order to maximize learning opportunities is valued at Strandwood Elementary School. Parents and guardians are an important source of information and a part of this process. Therefore, parents and guardians are provided the opportunity to give the school information regarding their child.

As you can imagine, many factors need to be considered when classes are created. The following criteria will be considered in this process:

A. Total number of students divided equally in each class

B. Balance of boys and girls, including ethnic balance

C. Structure of class

D. Assessment of students' needs

E. Parent information regarding students' needs

F. A reasonable range of ability and achievement in each class

G. Separation of some students

H. Academic balance; leadership balance

I. Last-minute class configuration changes due to over/under enrollment

A Student Information Form will be available in the office on May 1st, 2012.  Click here for a copy of the form.In order for this information to be considered, the required form must be returned to the school office no later than May 23rd, 2012

Notification of class assignments will be at Jumpstart Day on August 28th, 2012.

Please remember that student enrollment changes over the summer because some students move and others enroll. Flexibility must be maintained to readjust class placements to reflect these changes.

Through this process, we hope to make the 2012 - 2013 school year successful for your child.
