| Strandwood Gardening Committee
By Mike Howard

The Strandwood Gardening Committee would like to thank everyone who volunteered for Strandwood's Make a Difference Day. Thanks to the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, families and individuals who helped make Strandwood a beautiful-looking school. We could not have done it without you!
As the warm weather approaches, we need volunteers to assist with watering the newly planted and older plants from May to October. One and a half to two hours per week is all we need. Please join us with a bit of your time to keep all our plants growing well.
Please check your calendars and choose a week to help water. Contact Michael Howard at fireknight1@aol.com to schedule your time. Thank you very much!
Volunteers are needed for 1 1/2 to 2 hours, once a week for the weeks beginning on the following dates: May 7, 14, 21, 28 ** June 4, 11, 18, 25 ** July 2, 9, 16, 23, 30 ** August 6, 13, 20, 27 ** September 3, 10, 17, 24 ** October 1, 8, 15, 22, 29

| Read And Dream
By Jennie Dye
| |
May is the last month to earn a book for this school year. The due date for reading logs this month is Friday, May 25th.
Please take the time to fill out a reading log with your child. If you need a new reading log you can print one from the Strandwood website (you'll find the Read and Dream section under PTA). You can also pick a log up in the office.
It is hard to see the disappointment on the kids faces who did not get a log turned in. On the other hand it is wonderful to see the excitement on the students faces when they get to select a book!
SPECIAL END OF THE YEAR AWARD
Any classrooms that have 100% participation this month will win double books. If all the students in a class read their minutes and turn in a log each student in the class will get to pick out two books.
We hope to have lots of readers this month!! Keep on reading!!!

| 7 Bad Coughs to Worry About
From our friends at Parents.com
| |
If your child has had a cold for several days without getting better and has developed a cough, pay attention to how it sounds. A wet, phlegmy cough accompanied by faster-than-normal breathing could signal pneumonia: Make an appointment for her to see the doctor.
