Thank You to All the Book Fair Volunteers!!
And Welcome New Book Fair Coordinators!!

By Kelly Martinelli & Katie Roarty

We would like to thank all the parent and student Book Fair Volunteers who helped with our Spring event. We could not put this together without all your help and support. Thanks for helping make this such a successful event. We would also like to give a special thanks to Mrs. Burns for her constant help and support of Book Fair. You are all truly amazing and much appreciated.

We would like to take this time to let everyone know how much we have enjoyed running the Book Fair for the last four years. We have truly loved the smiles and excitement on the kid's faces as they look forward to shopping at book fair, as well as knowing how much the profits help support Strandwood's Library. We would like to announce that next school year Lizzy Peters and Emily Ludlow have graciously agreed to take over as Book Fair Coordinators. Thank you Lizzy & Emily.

Sincerely, Kelly Martinelli and Katie Roarty

Opportunity to Help Families in Need
By Debbie Wilson

For over 3 years, a volunteer food pantry (MDUSD HOPE) has helped families within the Mount Diablo Unified School District community. The food pantry is maintained by a group of volunteers at the District office. Currently, the food pantry cupboards are bare.

Child Welfare and Attendance Liaisons (CWAs), School Psychologists and other District employees pick up boxes of food from the main District office and deliver to families in need.

Starting April 16th and running through April 27, the Strandwood Student Council will be hosting a food drive with a friendly competition between classes. Students can bring in as many food items as possible as often as possible (see suggested items below) to help their class win BIG! There will be boxes in each classroom for donations. The class with the most amount of food donated within the time frame will receive...wait for it.... a PIZZA PARTY FOR THEIR CLASS!! So please give generously, and help support our families in need!

FPHE Amazing Race

Instead of the Oak Park Restaurant Walk at the end of the campaign this year, Foundation for Pleasant Hill Education is doing a city wide Amazing Race (which will be more of a combination of Minute to Win it and Amazing Race) on April 21st.  It will run from 10:00 am to 4 pm but you can do as much or as little as you want based on your schedule!  A team can be a family or a group of friends (ideal size would be around 4 so everyone can paritcipate in activities).  So gather your family or get you kid's friends and drive them around (something new and different).  It should be lots of fun!  Sign up by registering at our website www.fphe.orgClick here for the flyer.

Hope you can make it!

How Does My Child Learn?
Sequoia Elementary School Presents Parent Education night. Have you ever wondered how your child's brain is wired when it comes to learning? Does your child struggle with schoolwork, no matter how hard he or she tries? Maybe your child dreads reading out loud, writing an essay, or tackling a math problem? Learn more about how you can help identify and support your child's particular learning style, as well as how to recognize any signs that he or she is dealing with a learning challenge and the steps parents can take to help children thrive.

This busy space can be stylish yet fun and functional for the whole family. Start with playful toy storage solutions, and then make over kids' seating, coffee tables, and media centers. The result: a room where everyone feels at home.
