PTA Looking for Executive Board Members
| |
It's hard to believe this is year going by so fast. The PTA needs to find people to take key positions on the Executive Board for next year. Roxanne Gambill, Kelli Duffy and Mark Gomez make up the nominating committee. As a past PTA President, I want to stress how important it is to play a part on Strandwood's PTA. Without the many board members we have had, and other volunteers, so many activities at Strandwood would not take place, i.e. the Nutcracker, FAME, Read & Dream, Bike Safety, Fall Fest, Staff Appreciation week. Participation is also key to raising funds for key resources at the school like our many Instructional Assistants and our teacher allocation which allow them to buy more supplies for their classrooms. I hope all of you will consider taking on one the following roles and helping to continue such a great tradition.
Open positions:
President
Executive Vice President
VP Ways & Means
VP Hospitality
Secretary
Treasurer
Auditor
Historian
Parliamentarian |
| Local Assemblymember to Speak at PH City Hall | Assemblymember Susan Bonilla will speak at a PH town hall meeting on Thursday, March 8, from 7-9pm at PH city hall, sponsored by the PH Education/Advisory Commission.
Susan Bonilla is a member of the Assembly Education Committee, and serves as chair of the Assembly Budget Subcommittee on Education Finance. Needless to say, she has a lot of knowledge about school funding, can provide information as to what is happening at the state level, and how it impacts our local schools.
This meeting is open to the public, and we are currently accepting questions ahead of time so her staff can do the appropriate research to answer our questions. Feel free to submit any questions directly to Jennifer Ortega (PH Ed.Com. member) at jortega.ph@gmail.com with any questions for Assm. Bonilla.
Her bill, AB 1172, which would allow school districts to consider the financial impact when considering a conversion charter (like CVHS) is out of Assembly and is currently at the Senate level. I encourage you to write letters and emails to Senator Mark Desaulnier to add your support to the bill. His email is: senator.desaulnier@sen.ca.gov |
