PTA General Membership Meeting Thursday
Strandwood's great 2nd grade teachers will be presenting at this Thursday's PTA General Membership Meeting. This is a good time for 1st and 2nd grade parents to see what is going on in this grade level and what the rest of the year will look like. Come for the teacher presentation and stay for the remainder of the PTA meeting. Of course you can leave after the grade level presentation but we would love it if you stuck around and listen to your executive board members have to say. Childcare is provided free of charge.

New Law Regarding Children and Booster Seats
"A change to California's Child Passenger Safety Seat law will now require children to
ride in either a car seat or booster seat until the age of eight, or until they reach a height
of 4 feet 9 inches. This law also requires children who do not meet the age or height
requirement to ride in the rear seat of a vehicle unless the vehicle has no back seats, the
restraint system cannot be properly installed or the rear seats are already occupied by
children under age eight. However, the law still maintains that a child may not ride in the
front seat of a vehicle with an active passenger airbag if they are under one year of age,
less than 20 pounds, or riding in a rear-facing child safety seat. (SB 929, Evans)"

(Drivers caught breaking the booster seat law can face fines starting at $475)

We Raised Our Kids in 2011
From our friends at Parents.com

Here's one thing most parents can agree on: there is no one right way to raise children. We are constantly tweaking, questioning, and adjusting to our growing, changing, challenging kids.

What's more, we're adjusting to the constantly changing world -- the endless stream of warnings, recommendations, and philosophies put forth by so-called parenting experts. This year, Parents.com readers were most engaged by and roiled up over seven parenting controversies. Read on to find out which big stories made our year-end list.
