FAME Lesson for October
|
 | "My Gems" by William Harrnett
|
Fine Arts Mini-Experience (FAME) is a six-year art and music program developed by Kathryn Sherrod. It is designed to familiarize students with well-known artists, composers, and their works. The content is presented by focusing on specific art and music elements as parts of a composition and by providing a connection, be it life experiences or artistic similarities of featured artists, to which contemporary young people may relate.
FAME offers students criteria for viewing a painting and listening to a piece of music. This guidance provides reinforcement in developing their skills as analytical spectators who can ultimately discern shades of quality and familiarizes them with some of the great artists in history.
This month the students are studying the art of William Harrnett and the music of Edward MacDowell. Click here to listen to "To a Wild Rose" by MacDowell.

PTA Reflections Program at Strandwood
Art Contest Deadline is Friday, October 21st. | |
Since 1969, the national PTA Reflections Program has encouraged students across the nation to explore their artistic talents. The program is designed to enhance quality arts education for students, encouraging them to create works of art in the areas of dance choreography, film production, literature, musical composition, photography, and the visual arts. Hundreds of thousands of students participate through their local PTAs each year. Students' works of art will be judged at the local level before being sent on to regional, state, and national levels.
This year's theme is "Diversity means..." and each entry must be the original work of ONE student only. Interpretation of the theme is more important than technique!! Each entry MUST follow rules of size & content for it's arts area. Entry forms must be completed for each entry, along with a statement about how the work of art relates to the theme. All Strandwood students, Kindgergarten through 5th grade, may participate.
For more information, forms & rules/guildelines, please visit the website created for Strandwood's PTA Reflections Program: http://strandwoodptareflections.wordpress.com/
Entry forms & rules/guildelines can also be found at the school office.
If you are interested in helping with judging the artworks for an afternoon on a weekend in early November, please email: PTAreflections@strandwood.org We could really use the help!

From our friends at Parents.com
| Resist the urge to chuckle the next time your youngster tests out her sarcasm on you (even if her antics are hilarious)-laughing will only encourage her to continue the behavior. You can help her understand appropriate language and tone by modeling it yourself
