Birthday Book Club
| |
Once again Strandwood is opening up the birthday book club. Simply donate $15 to the Strandwood Library and a beautiful, new hard cover book will be given to the library in honor of your child's birthday. The book will be selected by our library media teacher, Mrs. Burns, and it will be presented to your child during his or her library time. A custom-made book plate will be placed inside the book with your child's name and birth date. The books will become part of the Strandwood library collection to be read and enjoyed for years to come. Support the library and give your child a special treat in honor of his or her special day.

After School Spanish Starts Next Week
By Jennie Dye
| View the After School "Spanish For Kids" flyer here.
We are in need of one or two parents (one for Tuesday and one for Thursday) to volunteer to sit in on our Kindergarten Spanish class each week. It is a district requirement that all after school programs have two fingerprinted adults (the teacher counts as one) in attendance at all times. This will be a great opportunity for a parent who would like to learn some Spanish or brush up on their Spanish. Please contact Jennie Dye at jidye@yahoo.com if you are interested in finding out more.

Sutter's Fort ELP
By Jill Olivier
| Calling all 4th grade parents.
Save the date for parent meeting: TUES. OCT. 11TH at 7:00 pm in the Library This is an informational meeting for parents only. For those of you not familiar with this program, the Sutter's Fort Environmental Living Program is a special program that allows students to "live" history. The students, along with program directors and trained parent helpers, spend 24 hours (March 13-14th) as a living museum, portraying characters of 1840s California at Sutter's Fort, Sacramento.
Those involved partake in the various trade activities and entertainment of the era. Weekly courses will be held on Wednesdays, January 4th - March 21st (12:45- 2:00pm) in the multi-use room. This experience is one you and your child will never forget.

Important Volunteer Information
| |
TB Tests Expire after 4 Years:
Although your fingerprints are good for your entire stay in the MDUSD, your proof of a negative TB test expires after 4 years. Don't be denied the opportunity to go on a filed trip or volunteer in the classroom because of a simple test.
Your family doctor can usually administer the TB test or there are two Muir Diablo Occupational labs and a local doctor that can perform the tests on a walk-in basis.
Muir Lab Concord: 2231 Galaxy Court 685-7744 Test available everyday Mon - Fri from 7 AM-7 PM, Sat 9 AM-2 PM No TB after 2 PM on Thursdays
Muir Lab Walnut Creek: 1981 N. Broadway, Suite 190 932-7715 Test available everyday Mon - Fri, from 8 AM-5PM
Pleasant Hill Wellness Center 140 Gregory Lane, suite 280 (same building at the Red Rross)
Test available Monday-Wednesday
Volunteer Drivers Insurance Information:
If you plan on driving students on field trips you must have a copy of your current automobile insurance coverage on file in the office. This is in addition to the fingerprinting and TB testing requirements. The proof of insurance coverage must be a copy of the policy showing how much coverage you have. A proof of insurance card that you keep in the car is not sufficient. Please do not wait until the last day to provide this. Making changes to field trip car assignments at the last minute is something the teachers shouldn't have to do.
Drivers/Chaperones: Parents, are you going to chaperone a field trip this year? Why not look the part and order your adult spiritwear today. Lots of colors and sizes are in stock. Don't wait because once this inventory runs out we won't order adult spiritwear for a while. View and print out the order form by clicking here or visiting http://spiritwear.strandwood.org. Fill out, print then submit your order and check to the PTA basket in the office. Questions? Contact spiritwear@strandwood.org. Return to Top |
