Auction Winner Reserved Parking

DDA parking Spot As mentioned two weeks ago, a reserved parking spot is auctioned off every year at the PTA Dinner Dance Auction. Good money is donated for the privilege of parking in this spot for three months at a time. The auction winners name will usually be posted on the sign. The spot is reserved from 7:30am to 3:30 pm when school is in session. Please respect the PTA and the auction winner by not parking here. It is awful tempting to grab it for "just a second" when the rest of the parking lot is full but we know you can overcome the temptation and park elsewhere. Thanks

Company Matching Donations

Company Matching Programs are an important part of the Strandwood Fundraising Campaign.  A large number of companies participate in this program that can potentially double the amount of your monetary donation!  Please contact your Human Resource Department for further details.  A partial list of companies that participate in this program can be downloaded and viewed here.

Important Volunteer Information

Now that the Back to School Nights have concluded I'm sure there are a few of you out there that have stepped up to help but haven't met the requirements of the district.

Anyone working with students must be fingerprinted by the Mt. Diablo School District and have a negative TB test on file. How do you do that? Click here to download the Parent Volunteer Fingerprint Form. Evidence of a negative tuberculosis test done within the last 60 days must be provided to the Personnel Office at the time of your scheduled fingerprint appointment. TB clearance remains valid for 4 years and fingerprints remain valid for the duration of your volunteering within the school district. The TB test spans 2 or 3 days so don't leave it to the day before your fingerprinting date.

Your family doctor can usually administer the TB test or there are two Muir Diablo Occupational labs and a local doctor that can perform the tests on a walk-in basis.

Muir Lab Concord: 2231 Galaxy Court 685-7744
Test available everyday Mon - Fri from 7 AM-7 PM, Sat 9 AM-2 PM
No TB after 2 PM on Thursdays

Muir Lab Walnut Creek: 1981 N. Broadway, Suite 190 932-7715
Test available everyday Mon - Fri, from 8 AM-5PM

Pleasant Hill Wellness Center 140 Gregory Lane, suite 280 (same building at the Red Rross)

Test available Monday-Wednesday

Volunteer Drivers: If you plan on driving students on field trips you must have a copy of your current automobile insurance coverage on file in the office. This is in addition to the fingerprinting and TB testing requirements. The proof of insurance coverage must be a copy of the policy showing how much coverage you have. A proof of insurance card that you keep in the car is not sufficient. Please do not wait until the last day to provide this. Making changes to field trip car assignments at the last minute is something the teachers shouldn't have to do.

2011-2012 School Directory

The 2011-2012 Strandwood school directory is now being put together. If you did not turn in a Email Club and Student Directory Sign-up Form please click here for the form. Fill it in, print it and drop the completed form in the PTA box in the office. The information you provide helps us create an up-to-date school directory, individual class rosters,  E-blast enrollment, and for communication within each student's class. The deadline for submitting your form is Monday, September 19th.

Back by popular demand!    Advertise Your Business in the Directory

For only $25, you can put your business card in the "Strandwood Yellow Pages" at the front of the 2011-2012 Student Directory. Share your business or service with other Strandwood parents and help support our Strandwood community!  (This is only available for parents of Strandwood students who provide a service or business; no non-Strandwood businesses will be accepted.) Drop off your business card with a $25 check (or cash) made out to "Strandwood PTA" in the PTA box in the school office.

The deadline to get your business card into the 2010-2011 directory is Friday, September 23, 2011. Limit of 1 business card sized ad per business.

After School Spanish Starts September 27th

View the After School "Spanish For Kids" flyer here.

We are in need of one or two parents (one for Tuesday and one for Thursday) to volunteer to sit in on our Kindergarten Spanish class each week.  It is a district requirement that all after school programs have two fingerprinted adults (the teacher counts as one) in attendance at all times.  This will be a great opportunity for a parent who would like to learn some Spanish or brush up on their Spanish. Please contact Jennie Dye at jidye@yahoo.com  if you are interested in finding out more.

Fundraising Dollars At Work

Great American Gift Wrap Sale Starts Friday

Strandwood Parents~ It's time to start thinking about how the Strandwood Community of family and friends can make a difference in the quality of the school experience for each of our students.

This gift wrap sale is one of our largest fundraisers of the year.  Strandwood receives 40 to 50% profit on all items sold.  Our goal this year is to raise $38,000 and have 100% of the families participating.  This is an ambitious goal, considering these economic times, but we'd like our PTA to be able to continue funding all the wonderful programs that they support.  Have you taken a recent look at what our PTA funds?  Reading Specialists, Art Docent, Read and Dream, The Nutcracker, just to name a few.

We truly need and appreciate your support.  Remember - You Can Make a Difference.

5 Tips for Safe and Healthy Exercise for Children
From our friends at Parents.com
If your kid is playing sports and you're worried about injuries, help prevent common accidents by following safety rules. If you're worried about injuries, you can help prevent common accidents by following safety rules. An often-overlooked guideline is to make sure kids arrive at least 15 minutes before game time. This helps to warm up muscles and ease them into play.
