Open House Is This Wednesday
Open House, Retirement Celebration and Honorary Service Awards
| |
5:30-6:00pm Staff Retirement Party (Ms. Culbertson, Mrs. Vicki Martin, Manny Rivera, and Mrs. Tarapore)
6:00-6:30pm Honorary Service Awards
6:30pm-8:00pm Open House
Open House is a time for your child(ren) to shine for YOU in the classroom. Your student and his/her teacher have been working very hard to prepare for Open House. Everyone looks forward to the evening. That evening is also an evening to celebrate those who are leaving Strandwood. First grade teacher, Mrs. Siloo Tarapore, Third grade teacher Ms. Debbie Culbertson, Special Education Instructional Assistant Mrs. Vicki Martin and custodian Mr. Manny Rivera will be retiring at the end of this school year. Each one of these people have touched our lives and the lives of our children over the years. Their dedication, love and nurturing of our children and our school has made a tremendous difference to our community. We will miss each of them, but wish them well in the Happy Land of Retirement. In celebration of the retirements, the PTA will be hosting a Staff Retirement Party on May 25, 2011, from 5:30 to 6:00 in the Strandwood Courtyard (outside the office). Immediately following the Staff Retirement Party, will be the presentation of the Honorary Service Awards. These awards given every year upon nomination BY YOU. It really is a very special time of recognition for those who work so hard to support our children.

Make A Difference Day
| Thank you to all the families who came out to help us make a difference on Saturday, May 7th. We were able to complete all the projects planned and we could not have done it without you. Thank you also to the Girl Scouts, who came out to help us, as well.
Our campus looks great!! Now our goal is to keep it looking beautiful throughout the summer days. If you are interested and able to join our summer-time watering committee and can provide one week during the summer to water the grounds, please email Mike Howard at mhowie52@aol.com.
Once again, thank you for all your help in making Strandwood beautiful! Noga Kessler |

PTA Continues "Measure S" Campaign
| Hello Parents,The Measure S campaign is gaining some momentum. In the last few weeks we have been able to raise a little over $2,500.00! This is a great start!
What are our goals? We have two main goals. The most urgent goal is to raise at least $4,000 by June 1st. We want to make one hard push going into this coming week. It costs $8,000 for an Instructional Assistant for each grade. If we can accomplish this, the PTA has offered to match up to $4,000.00 to help the cause. The second goal is to continue to raise more then the $4,000 so the PTA can use their funds to continue delivering the programs that make are school exceptional.
Why June 1st? Having the funds for these positions by June 1st will ensure getting these positions filled without gaps or delays in the fall.
How do I donate? We are asking that every family donate between $50.00 and $100.00, but will, of course, accept any amount. The more donations we receive the more assistants we will be able to provide.
Donations should be made payable to Strandwood PTA and are tax deductible. Please make a notation that the donation is for Measure S. Before June 1st, please leave donations in the manilla Measure S envelope in the office. You can also visit the Strandwood PTA website at www.strandwood.org and donate via PayPal.
After June 1st, please use the website or mail donations to Dante Siracusa, 279 Apollo Way, Pleasant Hill, CA 94523 |

Spring Cleaning - Nutcracker Costumes Wanted
| The calendar says Spring but by the looks of our most recent weather, I'm a bit doubtful. Still, we will eventually need to make room in our drawers and closets for summer shorts. In preparation for next year, we are collecting clothes for a Nutcracker Costume Closet. Our hope is to collect gently used Nutcracker costumes that can be loaned out and borrowed next year - thereby greatly reducing the numerous, anxious emails looking for a white leotard or running to Target to grab the last pair of gray pants. We will be collecting the following items: Party dresses (size 8-10), ties, black shirts & black pants (Little Mice costume), white turtlenecks, light gray shirts and pants (Gingersnaps), white, black and beige leotards and ballet shoes. There will be a box available in the office to donate your items. If you wish to make special pick-up arrangements, please contact Cindy Turner at pcturner@sbcglobal.net. Thank you so much for your support! P.S. - If anyone is interested in working with Nutcracker next year, we do have a few open positions and would love to talk with you! |

We can always use volunteers for Jump Start Day. If you would like to volunteer on Jump Start Day please contact next years PTA VP of Communications, Mary Cole, at mcolesf@yahoo.com. Student Information Forms
|
Providing all our students with the most appropriate classroom placement in order to maximize learning opportunities is valued at Strandwood. Parents are an important source of information and can be a part of the process by providing us with information about their child.
Student Information forms are available in our school office now. Please return the form to the office on or before June 9th. On August 26th our PTA will host Jump Start day with lots of fun activities, opportunities to mix and mingle with friends and class lists will be posted that day.
Our goal is to provide balanced classes and maximize everyone's potential to have a successful 2011-12 school year.

Keep Your Kids Safe
Go cordless to reduce the risk of strangulation when shopping for window coverings. If you don't want to replace all the blinds in your house use a free retrofit kit from the window covering industry.
