Strandwood Rules

During the last week, students were reminded of the 2010-2011 Strandwood Rules and parents were asked to sign a form acknowledging the receipt of the rules. If you lost your copy or didn't get one click here. All parents should be aware of these standards that students are held to and do their best to reinforce them.

See's Candies Spring Fundraiser

Attention 4th Grade Families

See's Candy Join us as we continue our See's Candies Spring Fundraiser to benefit our children's 5th grade Outdoor Education Program for next year.

Our fundraiser started March 18th and ends on March 30th. Orders will be delivered to your student the week of April 18th, prior to Spring/Easter break.

PRIZES: There will be a prize for the top seller in each 4th grade classroom.

(Prize: Apple iPod Shuffle 2GB).

This is a great opportunity for family, friends, neighbors, and co-workers to purchase See's Candies (or a See's Candies gift certificate) without having to wait in line at the store, while helping to raise money for our children.

Note: Because the cost for the 5-day Outdoor Education session is about $250-$300 per student, fundraising is critical so that we can lower the cost for each student. Our fundraising goal is $8,000, and we hope to make approximately 10% of this through the See's Candies fundraiser.

Thanks for your support, and please contact Julie Tuggle (octuggle@yahoo.com) with any questions.

4 QUESTION PARENT SURVEY

From the Mt. Diablo Unified School District Blog - Thursday, March 24, 2011

(Gary Eberhart is the President of the MDUSD Board of Education)

The Teachers Union is currently surveying their members to determine how things are going at each of our school sites. I have read through the survey and find the questions very good. I think it will be great to get an understanding from the teacher perspective how the schools are doing.

I'd like to take that same effort to the community, but what questions should we ask? Given the financial restrictions that we are under, we really need to prioritize our efforts and spend our time addressing the community's highest concerns. The other issue is how can we conduct the survey and get positives as well as negatives?

So I have created a 4 question survey of my own and people who wish to take it can. I will publish the answers to the survey once I have 100 responses. There are 4 questions. Each of the 4 questions must be answered for the survey to be collected.

Please be honest and provide complete answers. What I'm hoping to find out is what questions should be placed on a larger survey that is sent out to the entire community. I am also curious to find out if we can depend on the community to be open, honest, and constructive. If we can't, then there is really no reason to expend dollars trying to do a district wide survey. If we can do the survey via Survey Monkey, we could do the survey very inexpensively, so if this can work, we might be able to use it.

Click HERE to take the survey. It is anonymous, so for those of you who are unwilling to provide your name, you are safe.

Follow up with results at http://mdusd.blogspot.com/ . Gary will post the comments when there are 100 responses.

Help Save High School Sports - Vegas Night on April 30th.

With MDUSD high school sport collections more than $300,000 behind last year, the United Mt. Diablo Athletic Foundation (UMDAF) is partnering with the six MDUSD athletic booster clubs to host a fun-filled "Vegas Night" fundraiser at the Concord Hilton on April 30th.

This will be a full house casino event run by professional gaming providers.  There will be fabulous prizes for all the winners, including a one-year 2011 Camry lease from Toyota of Walnut Creek to the winner of the Texas Hold'em Tournament.

Doors will open at 6:00pm with the games starting at 7:00pm.  The $50 cost per person includes dinner and gambling chips.  Buy-in to the Texas Hold'em Tournament is an additional $100.  There will also be a live band for dancing.

Because participation is limited, sign up now to ensure a spot while directly supporting MDUSD high school sports.  For more information and to purchase tickets, go to UMDAF's web site at www.unitedmtdiabloathletics.org.
