Help Schools Thrive - Give $55!
FPHE 2011 Annual Campaign - Goal: $60,000
| FPHE Annual Campaign Update: Midway through the campaign, we have raised over $17,000 toward the $60,000 goal. (The FPHE donor list is updated weekly at www.fphe.org)
In order to enhance our schools and get $60,000 to them in 2011, the second half of the campaign needs your support. FPHE awards grants in May 2011. Without campaign funding, there will be fewer grants. Please donate now at www.fphe.org or send a check with the attached campaign flier.
You can also check out the new website at www.fphe.org and · Learn who is on the FPHE Board. · Review our list of business donors. FPHE encourages you to frequent and thank the businesses and business people that have generously supported FPHE. · Read up on past minutes and FPHE news. · See your name on our donor list (if you'd like us to make a correction, please reply to this email). · Determine when you can attend a future FPHE Board Meeting. The meetings are open to the public and you are welcome to attend. Feel free to bring a friend. · Make a donation to the 2011 Annual Campaign! It's easy to do using our online PayPal system.
A special thank you to Orlando Guzman for his time and talent revising the FPHE website.

By Theresa Harrington Thursday, February 24th, 2011 at 7:37 pm in Education, Mt. Diablo school district.
Mt. Diablo schools Superintendent Steven Lawrence persuaded the school board to unanimously approve his recommendation not to close any additional schools Tuesday, without giving trustees a cost savings analysis to back up his claim that the district would save $1.5 million.
His PowerPoint presentation - which included answers to many questions - was missing one very important question and answer: How do the recommendations add up to $1.5 million? Read the remainder of the article by clicking here.

For Parents With Older Children - From Drugs to Mugs

 | | To see what he looked like 7 years later. Click here. |
With disturbing before and after photos of drug users' faces, a new anti-drug campaign may succeed where others have failed, grabbing teens' attentions by appealing to their vanity.
The pairs of mug shots, which graphically display the damage drugs can do to the face, were collected by the sheriff's office in Multnomah County, Ore. Faces that were normal - even attractive - in initial photos, shot when addicts were first arrested, metamorphose over years, and sometimes just months, into gaunt, pitted, even toothless wrecks.
