Race To Nowhere Screening
| Did you miss the screening of Race to Nowhere at Strandwood?
You still have the opportunity to view it at Church of the Resurrection, a.k.a. Peter Pan Preschool. Join Church of the Resurrection on Dec. 2 at 7 p.m. for a screening of this provocative documentary by local filmmakers about the price our kids pay for trying to succeed in school, sports, dating, music, hobbies and other activities. "The Race to Nowhere" looks at the pressure which parents, schools and society puts on our kids and how it can yield devastating emotional and personal consequences.
The church is located at 399 Gregory Lane. Following the screening we'll have a panel discussion featuring Dr. Joseph Ovick, Contra Costa County Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Marc Komori Stager, licensed family therapist, and the Rev. Joanne Sanders, Associate Dean for Religious Life at Stanford University. Cost is $10.

Online Shopping Earns Top Dollars
| Planning to do a bit of online shopping this year? Earn money for Strandwood by shopping through the Box Tops Marketplace or the eScrip Online Shopping Mall - both programs contribute a percentage of sales to our school. Choose from over 100 retailers like Lands End, Walmart, Williams-Sonoma, Macy's and Target - give our school the extra support it deserves. Don't forget to register your credit cards with Escrip and Strandwood will get an additional percentage of every purchase made at participating merchants. These are EASY fundraising methods that don't cost you an extra cent.
Our November Box Tops contest ends Tuesday, November 30th, so please continue to save those Box Tops. |

On This Day in History NOVEMBER 22,
1936 - The "China Clipper" took-off from Alameda, California in an attempt to deliver the first airmail cargo across the Pacific Ocean. Although its inaugural flight plan called for the China Clipper to fly over the San Francisco - Oakland Bay Bridge (still under construction at the time), upon take-off the pilot realized the plane would not clear the structure, and was forced to narrowly fly under instead. On November 29, the airplane reached its destination, Manila, after traveling via Honolulu, Midway Island, Wake Island, and Guam, and delivered over 110,000 pieces of mail. Click here for more info. 1963 - In Dallas, Texas, US President John F. Kennedy is killed and Texas Governor John B. Connally is seriously wounded by an assassin, identified as Lee Harvey Oswald. 1968 - The double album "The Beatles", also known commonly as "The White Album", is released. It is the ninth official album buy The Beatles. 1995 - Toy Story is released as the first feature-length film created completely using computer generated imagery. |
