A Message From the Principal
| Friday, October 29th, Strandwood's Upper Grade playground was alive with vampires, witches, ghosts, goblins and lots of Ninjas! The Halloween Parade is always a favorite tradition in our community. We have parents line the playground while students stroll around the playground to appropriate holiday tunes! Classes walked with their buddy classes. We had brothers, sisters and "friends" of Strandwood join us this year. Even a few four legged friends or was that a big chipmunk?
The parade is just one more tradition at Strandwood like the Fall Fest that is low key, low cost. Just like the Fall Fest it is one of my favorite events at Strandwood. We model for the students that we can have fun, be together and enjoy each others coming without a lot of extras!
We want to thank all our parents for coming out to join us as well as all the extended family that came along! Thank you to Mrs. Casebeer for being our "sound technician". Thank you to Mr. Brown for his excellent job as Master of the Ceremony and map master. Thank you to the awesome Strandwood students for being the cutest "Halloweeners" ever! A special thank you to the amazing teachers who came up with their own clever costumes and managed to make this day a safe, fun and learning environment for our students!
Remember to donate that "left over" candy to the Girl Scouts collecting for our troops overseas!
On to another great Strandwood tradition - the Nutcracker! See you at the show!

PTA Reflections Deadline is Friday
| The PTA Reflections Program is designed to enhance a quality arts education by providing an opportunity for students to explore their artistic talents and receive positive recognition for their efforts. When children express themselves through words, pictures, music, dance, and other art forms, they grow intellectually and socially. They learn to analyze their thoughts, feelings, and ideas; learn to look at things, people, and experiences in a fresh and exciting way; and become more interested in the ideas and works of others. Each year, the PTA Reflections Program challenges students to create art inspired by a specific theme. Themes are selected from hundreds of ideas submitted by students to the PTA Reflections Program Theme Search. Past themes have included "Exploring New Beginnings," "If I Could Give the World a Gift...," "A Different Kind of Hero," and most recently, "I Can Make a Difference by..." and "Wow!" The 2010-2011 theme is "Together we can..." Students participate in the Reflections Program by submitting entries to a local PTA or PTSA. Nationally, the program has six arts areas-dance choreography, film production, literature, musical composition, photography, and visual arts." Students can pick up an entry form and rules in the office from October 4th through November the 4th. All entries are due on November the 5th. Parents - If you have an interest in the arts and would are willing to participate as a judge, please e-mail Elizabeth Swanson @ elizabeth.swanson46@yahoo.com . |
