A Message From the PTA President Martha Alexander
| 2010 - 2011 SCHOOL YEAR IS GONNA ROCK!!!!
We have made it through the beginning of the school year. The last several weeks have been about getting into the routine of being back in school. Strandwood has a wonderful community of administrators, teachers and parents who work hard to make the start of school the best it can be. Accordingly, the beginning of the 2010-2011 school year "rocked" for a number of reasons.
ˇ We had fantastic turnouts for Jump Start Day and all three Back-to-School Nights ˇ We collected over $30,000 in student donations that will go to benefit our children in a number of ways. ˇ Our second major fundraiser is under way with a great start. ˇ The website is awesome and full of information. ˇ The PTA had an incredible turnout of people offering to volunteer to assist in many ways - making us the envy of many schools ˇ We have four excellent new teachers to add to our cadre of wonderful teachers ˇ The California Distinguished School flag flies proudly ˇ Our API score was 917!! ˇ Strandwood Spiritwear has a new retro look. ˇ We have an informative Parent Education program being planned. ˇ We are already underway with after school programs, which should all be starting soon!!
And most importantly our kids our excited about being back at Strandwood, they look like they are loving it!!
However, please keep in mind that for some of our families, the start of the year was fraught with heartbreaking challenges. Seven of our first grade families were overflowed to other schools. It is a very difficult challenge for those families who are overflowed, and also for the friends they leave at Strandwood We wish them a successful and wonderful year in their new schools and look forward to seeing them return next year!!! If you have any questions or ideas about the PTA, please feel free to leave me a note in the PTA box in the office, or e-mail me at Alexander9@aol.com.

Strandwood Office Secretary Moving On
|
Dear Strandwood Parents
I am taking this opportunity to wish the Strandwood community a fond farewell. A position at Valle Verde became available and I was asked by the Office Manager if I was interested in working with her. Because of the close proximity to my home and family I feel it is a good fit for me at this time. My last day at Strandwood will be Friday, September 24th.
I wish to thank you Strandwood for 5 wonderful years as your Elementary Secretary. You have graciously welcomed me into your lives. I have made many friends among the parents and teachers here at Strandwood and have enjoyed watching your children grow into responsible and caring youths and young adults of tomorrow.

There will be the larger Make A Difference Day in the Spring, as in years past. The first project will begin on Thursday, September 30 and will be in two parts. On September 30, the area in the main quad in front of the office, will be weeded and trimmed. The second part of the project will be on Friday, October 8, when we will plant new flowers and plants in that main quad area. Both days we will meet at 8:15am, after drop-off, and garden until 10:15am.
If you are interested in helping us or just want to know more about the small gardening projects please email Noga at nogakessler@yahoo.com.
