Attention Field Trip Drivers
|
Those parents who drive on field trips must provide the office with a completed Transportation Certification and Authorization form and a current copy of their automobile insurance every school year. These documents are thrown away at the end of the year and not carried over from year to year.
There are also insurance minimums that must be maintained. For a list of those, and a copy of the TRANSPORTATION OF STUDENTS IN PRIVATELY-OWNED VEHICLES form please click here. Fill it out on line, print it and bring it to Gayle in the office along with a copy of your current insurance coverage statement. Do not bring your evidence of liability card unless it shows all your coverage limits.
* Note - The insurance requirements are in addition to the TB and fingerprinting requirements.
Thank you for your cooperation.

A Message From the Superintendent
|
The following are excerpts from the Superintendent's latest memo. To view the entire message please click here.
State Test Scores, Part 2
In my last message, I identified schools with improved or high scores on the
State testing program. The list of schools omitted Westwood Elementary
with an Academic Performance Index score of 805 based on an improvement of 43
points. Congratulations to Westwood.
High School Athletics
A couple of weeks ago, I wrote about the need to increase fundraising for
competitive high school sports. The plan for funding athletics in the Mt.
Diablo District was not meeting its targets. Since that time, there has
been a tremendous surge of interest in retaining high school sports.
The 5K Run & Walk on October 18 was a huge success. In an unprecedented show of support and unity, athletes, parents, staff,
and community members...
H1N1 Flu Status So far, we have had a limited number of cases of the swine flu or H1N1
in Mt. Diablo. When probable cases have occurred this year, we notified
parents at the school. The County Health Department now has 7,000 vaccinations.
They have scheduled clinics at some elementary schools.

What is it? Blender
Fact or not? 1. NOT - The heaviest element known to occur in nature is uranium, which contains only 92 protons, putting it 30 places below the putative new element in the periodic table. In the laboratory, physicists have managed to create elements up to 118, but they are all highly unstable.
2. FACT - An amylase is an enzyme that breaks starch down into sugar. Amylase is present in human saliva, where it begins the chemical process of digestion. Foods that contain much starch but little sugar, such as rice and potato, taste slightly sweet as they are chewed because amylase turns some of their starch into sugar in the mouth.
3. NOT - Harry Houdini died of peritonitis secondary to a ruptured appendix. It has been speculated that Houdini was killed accidentally by a McGill University student, J. Gordon Whitehead, who delivered multiple blows to Houdini's abdomen (with permission) while he was in Montreal. These repetitive blows are thought to have been a stunt, in which Houdini displayed his dexterity.
