STAR Testing Continues
|
STAR (California's Standardized Testing and Reporting) testing is with us for one more week. Following these simple tips will help your student perform at their maximum.
* Being on time each morning is critical for the success of every student every day, including STAR testing days. Students who arrive late disrupt not only their own testing but also their classmates. We are in this as a team at Strandwood and success of one student is the success of all. Please be on time! * Allow your child to get a good nights sleep before the tests * Be sure you child eats a well balanced breakfast * Encourage your child to do his or her personal best but do not overemphasize the tests, they are only one measure of your child's performance.
Homework assigned should be light during testing.
There were a few great sites with STAR information mentioned in last week's blast. Click here to review that edition. |

project that will benefit Strandwood? Well, have we got the job for
you!!! The Grant Committee is looking for enthusiastic and motivated
individuals to assist with the research and writing of school grants. No
experience necessary - we're all new at this and it is a learning process for
us all. We need volunteers to get this up and running because there are
many fantastic programs we want to both keep and bring to our school.
There is grant money out there to be had, we just need people to help us
find and apply for it. For more information, please contact Amanda Szakats

Business Classes for 4th Grade
|
Our fourth grade teachers would like to implement a business education program developed by Junior Achievement. We need 15 volunteers to help. Your time commitment is one 30 minute session in the classroom plus a single one hour evening training led by a Junior Achievement representative. The classroom date/time you pick is flexible and would be in May after STAR testing.
The training material is from Junior Achievement and is completely developed and scripted...no material development required by you.
If interested, contact Mike Morehead at 939-6935 or morehead@gene.com.

Measure D Volunteers Needed
|
|
We are coming
in to the home stretch. Now is when we need to try to "really pour
it on". The campaign gurus are telling us that contacting the voters
via phone and by personal contact at their doors will now be our most important
activities.
Please show
your support and join us on Wednesday, May 13th for Strandwood's
Phone Banking Night at the campaign headquarters, 2280 Diamond Blvd, Suite 350 in Concord/ We will be phoning from 5:30-9:00pm - stay an hour or the
entire time. We have had very little Strandwood volunteers able to
phone and walk precincts - so let's show those other PH schools how awesome we
really are by showing up and volunteering a couple of hours of your time.
No
experienced is necessary and we will provide you with a script to follow and a
list of FAQs and Frequently Asked Questions. Don't worry - we will train
and support you to reach voters during this critical crunch time.
Please RSVP
to Cindy Turner at pcturner@sbcglobal.net
if you are able to attend. Thank you so much for your support and remember to
VOTE on May 19th. Return To Top

Can You Please Vote For Us Again
|
Pleasant Hill Middle has been chosen a Semi Finalist for a field renovation!!! Out of 3,405 locations, our school was one of the 100 sites chosen for the remainder of the contest. From our original nomination on February 24, 2009 - we tallied up 11 other nominations and over 10,400 votes landing us in this position. Without you, we could not have done it!
Our school is now listed under Pleasant Hill Middle ("Kristine's" nomination). So, let's get voting like we've never voted before! On the web site, it states that we can only vote one time per day. Some sites already have over 2,000 votes. Tell all of your friends and family to help us out. I think positive comments are great and really strengthen our story. We have until May 31st when they will choose the 30 fields to renovate.
If you have a few minutes and would like to lend your support, please click here or log onto www.frostedflakes.com and click on "Search Fields" and input "Pleasant Hill Middle." Click on "More info" when you see our school. Then click "Support this Field."Then follow the prompts to sign up as a supporter.
I believe we can do this!! These kids, our school and this community is so fabulous, who wouldn't want to help us???
Thank you for all of your support,
Rebecca Rader, Pleasant Hill Middle School

5rd Annual July 4th Firecracker
5K Fun Run
|
|
The
Pleasant Hill Fourth of July Commission has announced that the Firecracker 5K
Fun Run will again be a part of this year's Fourth of July Celebration. All proceeds from the run will be donated to
Pleasant Hill schools! Better yet, every
runner who registers will receive a T-shirt and can designate what Pleasant
Hill school they would like their registration fees to be donated to! Last year, the Fourth of July Commission awarded
over $9800 to Pleasant Hill schools. This is a great opportunity for parents
and children, friends and neighbors to raise money for our school.
Look for more details in the next few email Blasts.
What
a great way to kick off the Fourth of July and to help our school!
