Budget Article Correction
|
I hope everyone read the special Email Blast about how the budget can affect Strandwood. There was one error is the Pink Slips section. It should read "teachers are laid off according to their seniority with the district as a whole--last in - first out-- ...". If you didn't get a chance to read the article it will be available on the Strandwood website by Monday afternoon. You can click here to see if it is on the web yet.

Well the results are in and as usual the families and friends of Strandwood have
outdone themselves. Despite our
difficult economic times, the Dinner/Dance Auction raised over $50,000!!!! Incredible.
I don't really know where to start in expressing gratitude but here
goes. First thanks to our chairpersons,
Lea Harrington and Cindy Turner. Without
their seemingly endless energy and organization this would not have happened. Thanks to the volunteers of which there were
many but let me name the committee chairs; Katherine Bracken, Trish Heaney,
Rose Bargmann, May Hanecak, Carolann Ianora, Kim Khalvati, Jennifer Baker, Gina
Rigley, Leslie Shanks, Noga Kessler, Margaret Casebeer, Katie Roarty and Elena
Hutslar. Thanks to the Liz Kim, the
teachers and staff for their participation and contributions. Finally, and most importantly, thanks to all
of you for your tremendous support.
At
our May 7th general meeting we will be voting on numerous ways to
use these funds and others raised this year to help our school meet many
needs. I hope you will all consider
attending and participating.
Thank
you again!
Sue Noack

Pleasant Hill Middle School Field Nomination From Rebecca Rader
I have been receiving an extremely large amount of e-mail regarding
confusion with the Frosted Flakes Field Web Site. Instead of trying to
respond to everyone personally, I have decided to publish a short message of
information in the interest of saving time and for clarity sake.
Concerning the Field Contest that we are in for PHMS, I originally nominated
our school with the Frosted Flakes Web Site on February 24, 2009. I
filled out the requested story log and submitted pictures of our field.
In beginning the process of getting the word out for support I may not have
been clear in my instructions of how to vote for our school. Some folks
have either accidentally signed our school up again as a nomination or they
truly intended to make a new nomination. As a result, we now have six
nomination postings for our school. I have many contacting me saying that
they are becoming confused on which nod to vote for and questioning whether all
of the votes will be combined.
I can tell you the original nomination has the pictures of PHMS and more than 8,000 votes now. (Thank you!) If you are following my cue, this
would be the nod to vote on. I am told by Kellogg's that although they
recognize the flaw on their site, they cannot change and condense the
nominations. They have told me that they will most likely take all of the
"supporters" into consideration and count them as one.
Below are revised instructions of how to vote:
If you have a few minutes and would like to lend your support, please use this link and sign up as a "supporter."
The school has already been nominated, so make sure you are signing up as a
supporter.
If for some reason this link does not work for you, go to www.frostedflakes.com and click on "Search
for a Nominated Field" and input "Pleasant Hill Middle."
Click on "More info" when you see our school. Then click
"Support this Field." Then follow the prompts to sign up as a
supporter. You are welcome to also leave a note or comment on the web
site. I think your positive comments make our story even stronger, and I
encourage you to express your thoughts.
We have almost 9,000 votes! Keep the voting up; we still have
until April 30. I believe you can vote as many times as you want; I
cannot find anything in the rules that state otherwise. You just need to
put in the slanted code that appears and click "submit."
Thank you for all of your support,
Rebecca Rader

Measure D
|
On
May 19, 2009, voters in the Mt. Diablo Unified School District will vote on
Measure D, a $99 school funding measure to provide MDUSD with an estimated $7
million annually in local funding.The
32nd District PTA of which the Strandwood PTA is a part, has decided
to endorse this measure. Our PTA has not
had an opportunity to look at ourselves but we would like to encourage everyone
to get informed about the Measure, about MDUSD's budget issues and how the
State and Federal budget issues further impact us.
For information about the measure you can go
to www.ProtectOurLocalSchools.org
and if you want to volunteer or participate in some fashion, please contact
Cindy Turner, Strandwood's site representative, at pcturner@sbcglobal.net. Look for more information later this week or in next Monday's edition of the Email Blast on how the budget crisis will directly affect Strandwood Elementary and its staff, parents, students.
