Dinner Dance is a Hugh Success

Thank you to the entire Strandwood family of parents, teachers and staff who helped make the 12th Annual Dinner Dance Auction a HUGE success!!!

Preliminary numbers show that we have broken all records and raised the most money ever!!  (We're not going to share EXACT figures until all is said and done). With all of the economic turmoil going on throughout the country, it is reassuring to see that the parents in our community put such a high value on the education of our children.

There is still space available for these items:

Dreyer's Wine Bus Tour of Napa Valley:  Come aboard on Sunday, May 3rd for a tour of three Napa Valley wineries.  We will be enjoying tours and tastings at Berringer, Frank Family Winery and Clos du Val.  Lunch will also be provided by Zio Fraedo's.  The cost per person is $50.00.  Please contact Leslie Shanks at leslieshanks@hotmail.com if you would like to attend.

St. Mary's College Soccer Clinic at Strandwood:  The kids will be learning valuable soccer skills from St. Mary's head coach Adam Cooper.  Join us on Sunday, May 3rd at Strandwood for a 2-hour clinic.  The cost is $20 per child and available for boys/girls grades 2-5.   Please contact Ghia Vanecek at 501vanecek@comcast.net if you would like to attend.

DDA Reserved Parking Spot
dda parking sign Have you seen this sign in front of a parking stall at Strandwood? Every year this preferred parking spot is auctioned off at the Dinner Dance. It is a popular item that earns good money for the PTA. I know it is tough to pass it up when it is raining and is the only spot open but...please keep on driving.
Check Out FAME!

Join Strandwood students for a FAME presentation this month!!  We will have lessons in the library on Tuesday, March 17th and
Rain Forest PhotoTuesday, March 24th.

Step in to our very own rain forest and discover Jungle Scene with Setting Sun by Henri Rousseau and Bachianas Brasilieras #1 by Heitor Villa-Lobos.  This lesson focuses on self-taught artists and the rain forests that inspired them. Students will learn about Primitive-style art and review the elements of art and music.

For more information and a detailed schedule, please contact Laurie Wozniak at alborzandlaurie@yahoo.com

MDUSD Science Fair is This Weekend

Science Fair

The MDUSD 22nd Annual Elementary Science Fair is Saturday, March 21 at the Willow Creek Center from 9:00am to 11:00am. The center is located at 1026 Mohr Lane in Concord. The science fair is intended for 3rd-5th grade students only.

The science fair encourages students to deepen their understanding of science and technology. It allows students to use their critical thinking skills through the scientific method. The scientific method uses a set of thinking processes such as gathering research data, designing experiments, making direct and indirect observations, recording  & organizing empirical data (data that is directly observed), and analyzing, comparing and contrasting experimental findings.

The Strandwood participants are Kathy Hoffman and Christina Bracamontes from Mrs. Chequer's class, Mari Obrochta and Max Vukovojac from Mrs. Schuster's class and Alexandra Flores and Alekandra Singer from Mrs. Beck's class.

If you get a chance, stop by the Willow Creek Center this Saturday and see what our talented Strandwood students have been up to.
