June 2010 Header
Greetings from RMH Providence,

Warm, sunny greetings to all our friends...well, we can dream can't we?  May the rest of your winter be filled with clear sidewalks, no cancellations and NO SNOW!  In this newsletter you will find a Hearts of Gold recap, a family thank you to a sponsor, Little Philanthropists, new staff updates and more.  We hope you enjoy!

Thank You

"Dear Cardi's Furniture,

Even a sincere thank you doesn't seem like enough.  The Ronald McDonald House of Providence has been a Godsend to us during this time.  We live in Mass and our "23 weeker" is being cared for at Woman & Infants'.  Being able to cross the street and get a good night's rest has been GREAT!  The furniture has all the comforts of home.  Our room has been awesome.

Thank you for sponsoring our room.  We hope it will be as comfortable and comforting for another family as it has been for us!

Carley Garnett & Michael DiGaetano

p.s.  Our son, Dominic Chance DiGaetano, is doing great and we have the highest hopes for him.  Staying this close has been an aid in our time as well as his!"

Hearts of Gold

Eyes filled up as Marianne St. Clair shared her heart-felt story with the guests at our Hearts of Gold event.  While sampling wine, pastry and chocolate from local vendors, supporters of the House gathered to listen to Marianne and remember why they came to Gracie's on February 8.  Thanks to all of our supporters and sponsors including Gracie's, Cardi's Furniture, Gorton's and the Hollingworth Family, we were able to raise over $9,000.  This money directly supports families of critically ill children like Marianne St. Clair's daughter.  Thank you!

Check out photos from the event.

Have you stayed at the House?  We would LOVE to hear from YOU!

Tell us about your stay and share your family updates.  Send letters and/or photos to the House or complete our online form.  Any submissions may be used in our marketing materials and/or donation solicitation pieces.
Welcome Aboard!

We are excited to welcome three new staff members to the House.  Sue Czekalski, our new Family Room Coordinator joins us after 18 years with Big Brothers of Rhode Island.  With her welcoming disposition, Sue is a perfect addition to the staff.  Our new Resident Night Manager is no stranger to the House.  Tiffany George started as a volunteer in 2009.  She and her husband Ian now call the House their full time Home.  Finally, Karen Menard stepped in as our Weekend Relief Manager. Karen introduced herself to the House over 13 years ago as a volunteer.  Her dedication to our Mission makes her a great fit as a House staff member.

The Little Philanthropists
WeeCare Daycare

In late November, Deborah Bailey made the following post on our Facebook page; "The students from WeeCare Daycare in Slatersville have worked hard this fall to raise many donations for The Ronald McDonald House.

Upon arriving at WeeCare, it was hard to not notice the oversized fry container towering over the children. This group of youngsters collected enough items to not only fill the fry container with everything from food to toys, but they also filled three additional boxes.

It is amazing to see children doing such great things. Kudos to the staff at WeeCare for teaching their little ones the importance of community and giving back. That will go a long way in their lives and their donation will go a long way at RMH Providence!

Walk Festival
May 1, 2011

We are preparing for our Annual Walk Festival at Roger Williams Park.  Now is the time to get your teams together and mark your calendars for May 1.  As always, we will have great food and family entertainment, so you can make a day of it!  Online registration is now open.

Food Check-Out Week
February 20-26

Each year the American Farm Bureau sponsors "Food Check- Out Week". The purpose of this event is to acknowledge that all families deserve to eat heathly, even on a tight budget.  To commemorate the week, Farm Bureaus throughout the country have food drives and donate to their local Ronald McDonald House. We would like to thank Al Bettencourt and the Rhode Island Farm Bureau for organizing a food drive to benefit RMH Providence.
