News and Notes from the Ruidoso Valley Chamber of Commerce

By Marla Lewis, RVCC Executive Director

Season's Greetings!

The board and staff of the Ruidoso Valley Chamber of Commerce would like to take a few moments to wish all the Chamber members and their families a wonderful Christmas and holiday season. We hope that you have had a prosperous and successful year, and want to thank you all for your support of the Chamber and our programs during the past year.

I will be celebrating my first Christmas here in Ruidoso, and I am very happy to be a part of this community with its wonderful outpouring of friendship, support and caring that is often only found in small communities like ours. As a citizen of this Village, you can be proud that you live in one of the most beautiful places in New Mexico - one of the best kept secrets anywhere! While many of us are facing economic recovery, I feel we are especially fortunate to live where we have so many supportive business people and organizations that truly care about their neighbors and constituents.

My wish for all businesses and organizations for the coming year is that we will all work together in a united force to build communication, organization, and determination that will allow prosperity and growth for all commerce in the county. The key to growth and building the community is to communicate at all levels, and with all concerned - one small success at a time.

For your businesses, your families, and your lives, I wish you a blessed Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Marla Lewis

RVCC Executive Director

Greeters' Corner

By Cynthia Smith

Those turquoise jackets really got a workout in the month of November. They were visible at ribbon cuttings at Kiki's, The Swiss....the restaurant at the Swiss Chalet, The Three Bears' new, bigger location, and at the Capitan Clinic. At the Clinic we ran into a small problem. We brought one long piece of blue ribbon with us, so asked for some scissors to cut it to simulate the cutting with our big faux scissors.....and not a pair of scissors anywhere in the clinic! Donations, please. The clinic is beautiful and looks well equipped to handle the medical needs of the community.

We got out the jackets again to attend the BAH's at Sacramento Mountain Village, Mac Millan's Furniture and at the Convention Center....where, if you had sampled everything that the caterers offered, you would have exceeded two days worth of calories.

Greeters took their entire Greeter wardrobe to the Convention Center the week of the Christmas Jubilee. Hanging on the wardrobe rack in the Hospitality Room were black sweatshirts, vests, aprons and turquoise jackets. Some long time Greeters even sported a previous style jacket. And of course we dug out our most comfortable footwear to see us through many, many long hours on our feet.

And those hours are worth it. A preliminary count puts the paid attendance at 4,259. Unpaid attendance which included about 190 active military , the many children who came to see Santa and hear Mrs. Santa's stories, the 80 vendors and at least that many vendor helpers, and the 30 Greeters brings the number of people who enjoyed the Jubilee at close to 4,700. From the survey sheets that were returned to us, it would seem that a large majority of the vendors did very well. And that is the reason we put on the Jubilee.

In January we will have an evaluation meeting to assess what was great and what needs to be improved; but first, we'll socialize at our Greeter Christmas luncheon to be held at the Sanctuary. We'll all bring a toy and forego the turquoise for holiday sparkle !
