Neighborhood Prosperity Initiatives (NPI) Moving Forward!
Great turnout for the two NPI Kickoff events in Cully this January! More than 200 community members participated in the NE 42nd and Cully Blvd. events, lending their valuable insights for community-driven economic development. The work is only just beginning, but off to a good start. During the next few months, the community will be engaged in a vision to help outline an action plan. Because of the great enthusiasm of the community, there are a lot of ideas to integrate into concrete actions. Organizers are also looking to draw more community members into the process. Diversity, community-serving businesses, local entrepreneurship, welcoming gathering spaces and more are themes that have emerged throughout the engagement process.
NE Sunday Parkways is May 13th!
Sunday Parkways takes place on one Sunday each month from May through September in a different area of the city. Join the series of free community events opening the city's largest public space - its streets - for people to walk, bike, roll and discover active transportation. Estimates put total attendance at the events at more than 100,000 since 2008. Residents and visitors say they come to enjoy the traffic-free loop of streets connecting parks and schools filled with activities, music and vendors. It's safe, family-friendly and a chance to meet neighbors. Sunday Parkways is organized by the Portland Bureau of Transportation thanks to presenting sponsor Kaiser Permanente, and partners at Portland Parks & Recreation and Universal Cycles. The Five dates and locations are scheduled for Sunday Parkways 2012. More information is available at www.PortlandSundayParkways.org and by calling 503-823-7599.
