Dan Styffe will perform in May and June at the Bergen International Festival, Norway and at a festival at the Ringve Museum in Trondheim, Norway in June. in July he appears at the Koster Chamber Music Festival in Sweden and in August he premieres a trio for voice, bass and piano by Norwegian composer Asbjřrn Schaathun at the Oslo Chamber Music Festival. Dan recently won a "Spellemansprisen" prize (Norway's version of the Grammy) for a duo  performance with violost Catherine Bullock of music by J.Ř. Ness.
 

Anthony Manzo, bassist with the New Century Chamber Orchestra and new faculty at the University of Maryland School of Music, will be performing with the St. Lawrence String Quartet and pianist Pedja Muzijevic on the Stanford Lively Arts series in Palo Alto, CA on Sunday, April 18th at 2:30 pm in Dinkelspiel Auditorium. The program will include Lanner's "Die Werber" Waltzes and Schubert's Trout Quintet.

Effective August 15, 2010, the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami, Coral Gables, is seeking an outstanding performer and teacher of the double bass with a strong background in music education. The position requires double bass performance, teaching double bass and supervising all string music education and pedagogy within the School. The individual will be expected to supervise master and doctoral committees and guide graduate student written work required for the various degrees, and supervise graduate teaching assistants in string technique class, supervise string teaching at the elementary laboratory school, conduct master classes and seminars in performance, recruit high-level students and maintain an active professional career. National and/or international prominence as a double bass performer with a substantive background in music education is essential. Expertise in teaching double bass and string music education at the university level is required. An earned doctoral degree in the area is also required. Full-time, nine-month, tenure-earning position, rank and salary negotiable. The 2010 Recital Music Composition Competition for Double Bass is open to composers of any age or nationality. The theme of the competition is the discovery of Jupiter's four largest moons in January 1610 by Galileo Galilei, now called the Galilean or 'Medician' satellites, in honor of their Florentine heritage. There are five categories and submitted works written in any style or idiom are acceptable. Composers may submit more than one entry, but each must be accompanied by the relevant entry fee.  Works should be unpublished but may have been performed previously. Works written for 4-stringed basses, with the lowest note of E, and in any standard tuning are preferred. Recordings may also be submitted with each entry. The Pirastro Strings Elite Soloists Program provides free tuition, room and board for 5 participants selected by audition to study with Jeff Bradetich June 1-5, 2010. The First annual Bass Coalition Summer Bass Workshop and Solo Competition will take place June 24-26, 2010 on the campus of Shenandoah University-Conservatory in Winchester, VA, approximately one hour west of Washington, D.C.  Clinicians will include Rufus Reid, David Murray, Inez Wyrick and Donovan Stokes.  The Solo Competition will take place on June 24, 2010 with a top prize of $1000.  The three day workshop will be packed with ensembles, masterclasses, one-to-one instruction and concerts. The Bradetich Foundation announces the inaugural International Double Bass Solo Competition, June 16-20, 2010, hosted by the University of North Texas College of Music in Denton, Texas, USA. The competition is open to anyone under the age of 35 as of the first day of the competition June 16, 2010, and who has not given a formal New York City debut concert. The International Double Bass Solo Competition endeavors to identify emerging international artists and to provide career advancement and leadership opportunities. The 17th annual Oklahoma City University Summer Double Bass Camp will be held July 18-24 at the Wanda L. Bass Music Center on the campus of Oklahoma City University.  Directed by John Schimek, Professor of Double Bass at OCU, the weeklong camp for high school-college age students will offer opportunities for students of all abilities.  Included are daily classes in technique, audition music, chamber music and each day will conclude with the "Bass Choir".  Non-bass playing teachers are invited to participate to improve their bass playing and teaching skills. The 15th Annual Golden Gate Bass Camp will take place the week of July 19-25, 2010 at Holy Names University in Oakland California under the direction of Barry Green. Sligo Jazz Project, International Summer School and Jazz Festival, July 20-25, 2010, Sligo, Ireland. "Samba Meets Jazz," a Brazilian styles and jazz workshop, will be held July 25-31 (guitar, bass, vocals) and August 1-7 (all instruments and vocals) at College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor, Maine, a 37-acre campus overlooking Frenchman's Bay and steps away from Acadia National Park. Following the success of BASS2008 in Paris is a week in the heart of Germany at the University of Arts Berlin and the Music Conservatory Hanns Eisler Berlin, with concerts and masterclasses by Franco Petracchi, Thomas Martin, Catalin Rotaru, Thierry Barbé, Klaus Stoll, Tom Knific, Stefano Scodanibbio, Michael Wolf, Hans Sturm, Todd Coolman, Leon Bosch, Christine Hoock, Phil Palombi, Jeff Bradetich, Barre Philips, John Goldsby, Paul Ellison, Bozo Paradzik, The BassGang, Barry Green, Michinori Bunya, Esko Laine, Roman Patkolo, David Murray, Guiseppe Ettore, Janne Saksala, Kristin Korb, Duncan McTier, Dan Styffe, Kazuo Okuda, Caroline Emery, Volkan Orhon, Miloslav Jelinek, Mini Schulz, Edmond Cheng, Fausto Borem, Dieter Manderscheid, Paul Erhard, Jimmi Roger Pederson and Andreas Bennetzen.  Also part of the week will be an exhibit hall and solo and jazz competitions with first prizes of 5,000 Euros, and a youth competition.
