Racing starts in two weeks!
May 19 first night of Thursday Night Lights

The spring sunshine, or lack thereof, has us all dreaming of a Thursday evening filled with high-intensity racing under the lights.  Our dreams are about to come true.  On May 19, Thursday Night Lights returns for the 21st season!  We have 17 nights of fun planned for 2011.  We're thrilled to welcome new racers and new sponsors this year.  The MN Fixed Gear Classic marks its 3rd year, June 10-12 and will feature a world-class field of racing superstars.

One thing you'll notice that's new is an admission fee. Our traditional $2 suggested donation is now the admission price for adults to our Thursday Night Lights race events.  This admission fee helps us fund the important programs we offer throughout the season, including our VeloKids and Future Stars Junior Racing programs.  Admission is still free for kids 12 and under.

You'll find our complete Thursday Night Lights race schedule here.

Featured races return!
The racing will be hot as we contest our featured race series again this year.  Fan favorites including the All-City King of the Sprints competition, Bikery du Nord Women's Scratch Races, Queen of the Sprints series and Penn Cycle Points Races are joined by the new Angie's Kettle Corn Women's Handicap Series. Each race series will have its own web page, so check back online all season for the latest results and standings.

2010 Track Rider of the Year - Terra James

Terra James imageA road bike frame built by her brother ignited Terra James' interest cycling in 2003, but she didn't find her way to the Velodrome until 2007. A lifelong adrenaline junkie who competed in triathlons and grew up rock climbing and white water kayaking, she had no idea what the track was until she heard about the intro class at a local bike shop and signed up. It didn't take long for her to fall in love and become a force to be reckoned with.

In 2008, Terra started track racing and in 2010 she racked up honors including ArtJersey Queen of the Sprints, the Bikery Women's Scratch Race Series Champion, State Keirin Champion and, of course, Track Rider of the Year as a member of Behind Bars/LGR. She managed a hat trick on the first 2010 Thursday Night Lights, foreshadowing a fierce season ahead. In addition to her track success, Terra also earned 2010 Road Racer of the Year as a Cat 3 rider and upgraded to Cat 2.

In 2011, she looks forward to traveling for some larger races and continuing to challenge herself. She recently launched Sweet n'Salty, an all-women cycling team, and aspires to encourage other women to participate in the sport she says has given her so much physically and emotionally.
