Peace Coffee Two-Day Grind, August 19-20, 2010
Crosby/Kruse Take Peace Coffee Grind
Brian Crosby and Andy Kruse overcame an early Thursday mishap and a Friday rally by Dan Casper and Brandon Krawczyk to take the 2010 Peace Coffee Grind title. Crosby and Kruse (both Speedfix Racing p/b Zubaz) made a strong statement on Day 1 as they battled through a crash involving Kruse during the Miss & Out. The riders, wearing the Red #2 jerseys, swapped places in the chariot heats, giving Kruse some much-needed recovery time. Casper (Grandstay) and Krawczyk (Speedfix Racing p/b Zubaz) managed a strong first night showing that previewed their Friday night success. The pair won Thursday's 60 lap points race and the Miss & Out. Friday evening, Casper and Krawczyk shadowed Crosby and Kruse, placing 2nd to the Speedfix pair's 1st in 4 races. In the critical 80-lap Madison, Casper and Krawczyk only conceded a single lap to Crosby/Kruse. The team of Chris Ferris (PJW Racing )and Dan Schueller (Gopher Wheelmen) also showed their strength, winning Friday's Madison Kilo TT and Chariot Race in addition to several 2nd place finishes. The only casualty of the evening was the rabbit that strayed onto the track during the points race and into harm's way. Click here for Peace Coffee Grind team results
The Cat 4/5 and Women racers contested omniums of their own during the 2-day event. Both fields featured tight battles at the top of the standings. Thursday's Cat 4/5 event concluded with a tie for 1st place between Silver Cycling teammates, Mike Pribble and Merrill Lutsky after each won a race and finished 2nd in the other. On the women's side, the Behind Bars/Little Guy Racing earned bragging rights as Terra James and Megan Lennon shared the lead with identical 1st/2nd place finishes. The close competition in the Cat 4/5 races continued into Friday as Pribble and Lutsky again traded the top spots. Lutsky was awarded the omnium prize on the basis of finish order in the last event of the evening. The women's field separated in the Handicap race as Jennifer Fischer (Synergy) took 1st with James 2nd and Lennon 3rd. That result combined with the 1st/2nd finish of James and Lennon in the Scratch Race gave James the omnium win, with Lennon 2nd and Fischer 3rd. Click here for Thursday night's omnium results
