Featuring the PENN Cycle Points Race
Big doings at the NSC Velodrome Thursday night. Due to recent rain-outs, three state championships were on the schedule. The 2009 Velo Kids participants also showcased their skills with three demonstration races.

Sponsored Race Feature - PENN Cycle Points Race/Category 1/2 State Points Race Championship
Penn Cycle LogoThe Minnesota State Championship Points race (80 laps, sprints every 10 laps) was limited to Cat 1/2 riders due to the large field. Brian Crosby, James Tainter and Adam Bergman dominated the sprints, each taking 2 intermediate victories.  Brian Crosby accumulated the most points to become the State Points Race Champion. Bergman was 2nd and Tainter 3rd.

Peace Coffee Grind
Peace Coffee GrindNon-stop racing filled the weekend as 9 teams contested the 2009 Peace Coffee Grind 2-day Madison event. Saturday's unseasonably cold weather did nothing to cool the action on the track.  Crosby and Casper led the first night's racing with high speed and well-timed attacks.  By the end of the first night, they had gained 3 laps on the field and a lap and 26 points on their nearest competitors, Atherton and Kruse.

The first night's hard racing did little to dampen the racers' effort on Sunday night.  Many split second finishes kept the judges on their toes throughout the program.  The pursuing teams secured strong results, keeping Casper and Crosby busy protecting their lead.  The leaders gained only a single lap during the Madison and were bested at the line on several occasions in the other events.  At the end of the second full night, Casper and Crosby took the win, followed by Atherton/Kruse and Ferris/Schueller.

Thanks to our event sponsors, Peace Coffee and Banjo Brothers for making the 2009 Peace Coffee Grind a success.

Track Rider of the Year Standings
Men
With only 2 more sessions left in the 2009 Thursday Night Lights season, Brian Crosby has secured the men's Track Rider of the Year championship.  The contest for the remaining podium spots remains close, however.  Only 7 points separate James Tainter in 3rd place and Adam Bergman in 2nd.  Two riders are within striking distance of Schueller's 5th place.

Women
The women's Track Rider of the Year has been a family affair this year as Heidi Dahlmann aims for sister Melissa's spot on the podium.  Only 16 points separate the two sisters and their nightly point totals have been very close all season, with Heidi earning 8 points/night and Melissa 6.5.
