The Schwan's USA CUP, presented by PUMA newsletter provides the latest information and updates about the tournament. |
| Unique Media Offerings in 2007 |
Players, coaches, spectators and fans at the upcoming Schwan's USA CUP will witness an exciting initiative that is largely unavailable at other tournaments. The National Sports Center (NSC) recently announced a partnership with Crystal Clear Sports to offer exclusive web casting of over 200 games and events during the 10-day tournament.
A daily "e-magazine" show will be presented for free each day, while broadcasts of opening ceremonies, games and other events will be available on a pay-per-view basis. Each broadcast will be offered live so family members not attending the event can follow the tournament's progress. In addition, each broadcast will be archived for viewing once teams and spectators return home from the tournament. College coaches and scouts may also find this useful.
The "e-magazine" show will offer interviews, entertainment features, educational segments and humor pieces. The show promises to be stimulating, as our goal is to paint a picture of what life is like at Schwan's USA CUP.

| Field Services: It's Fun, Social and Key to Our Success |
Every year, Schwan's USA CUP relies on volunteers in dozens of areas to help run a successful tournament. No where are volunteers more crucial for a smooth tournament than field services. The tournament needs approximately 150 volunteers to work in this area.
There are two main positions in field services, field managers and runners. Field managers are responsible for one to four fields. They make sure games start on time, there are referees for the games, scores are properly recorded along with other various duties. Runners drive carts on campus and make sure field managers have all of the necessary supplies.
In the beginning of June volunteers from last year will receive a postcard reminding them about Schwan's USA CUP. The tournament is always looking for more volunteers, however. If interested, please complete the online application. Volunteer application deadline is July 1, 2007.

| And Now a Word From Our Sponsor... |
Hello again from PUMA! We were going to try and wait until July to announce all of the exciting activities that are going to be happening in the PUMA Lounge at Schwan's USA CUP, but they're just too good to keep secret. Here's a sneak peak at what the 44 foot dome will house during the countries largest youth soccer tournament...
- Konami Video Game Area - PUMA and Konami have teamed up in Winning Eleven Pro Evolution Soccer 2007 and there will me multiple video game consoles for you to battle your friends, teammates and opponents to try and win the "Puma Cup". If soccer video games aren't your style, we've still got you covered with Konami's infamous Dance Dance Revolution.
- Tattoo Artist & Graffiti Wall - Want to stand out at Schwan's USA CUP? Minnesota's own "Preacha" will be in the lounge providing all team spirited players with their own temporary custom airbrushed tattoos! Not only will he paint the coolest PUMA cat you've ever seen on your arm, he'll also be showcasing his talent with graffiti art demonstrations that will turn an entire side of our lounge into a graffiti wall. Make sure to bring your team by so he can tag your teams name and have you become part of the Puma Graffiti Wall.

- Comfort Zone - In case you thought the PUMA Lounge was just a place for those people constantly on the move, we have something for you. The comfort zone will be the coolest place to relax during the event. There will be couches and beanbag chairs so you can take a load off and just relax for a little bit. Make sure to bring your Ipods because there will be docking stations so you can listen to your favorite music while chilling out in the Lounge. If sitting around isn't for you, there will be a FoosBall table set up to test your skills against anyone who challenges.
If all of that wasn't enough to get you excited about the PUMA Lounge, then we have one more minor detail to share with you. The entire lounge will be air conditioned!!! So not only can you take part in some great activities, but you will stay cool doing it! Be sure to stay tuned for more news from PUMA and we look forward to seeing all of you stop by the lounge in July! | |

| Schwan's USA CUP and Schwan's USA CUP Weekend Begin Ranking Process |
|
Each year Schwan's USA CUP works to achieve greater parity in the games with a ranking process for every team. Each team completes a team history when they apply to the tournament. Some applications are very detailed and some pretty basic, depending on the age and experience of the team. From these applications, internet research and polling contacts in the various states and countries the staff does the best job possible to make the initial team placement. This goes on from the time teams begin to apply in October until the end of May.
In early June, the second phase of ranking occurs. On June 5 the team coaches for the Schwan's USA CUP Weekend will get an email asking them to update their team history. Schwan's USA CUP Weeklong coaches will receive their email June 12. The staff needs to know how you are doing in league, tell us that you have only played two games against the weakest teams in your league, or that you went to a tournament and as a C1 team played only Premier teams and won the tournament. This is the information that is vital to our volunteers that come in to rank teams. This assists us when we begin seeding and scheduling the teams. We want the most accurate information possible. Even if you tell us that you are missing your best three players and have found three guest players that are great, but not as strong as the original players we need to know this.
The deadline to respond for the Weekend tournament is June 9 and the Weeklong is June 16. Once we have received your responses we will begin ranking the Weekend. Don't be surprised if you get an email or phone call asking for more detail, because that is how we get the best information.
If you are the coach of an Under 11, 12 or 13 team from Minnesota, please be as detailed as possible, because these ages self select placement so we want to pay special attention to make sure teams are where they will have the best competitive experience.
The schedule for the Weekend is:
- June 5 - Email to coaches with June 9 deadline to respond
- June 10-16 - USA CUP Weekend ranking by committee
The schedule for the Week is:
- June 12 - Email to coaches with June 16 deadline to respond
- June 17-23 USA CUP Week ranking by committee
