Greetings!
Well, they are officially here...the "dog days" of summer. Ever wonder where that saying came from? Most people know the meaning of the term: the hottest and most humid days of summer, usually much of July and August.
But not everyone knows the origin: In ancient Roman times people who studied astronomy knew that Sirius, the Dog Star, rose and set with the sun during the hottest weeks of the year, July through mid-August. They thought that the heat from the Dog Star combined with the heat from the sun to make those weeks extra hot. That's why these often uncomfortably hot weeks are known as the "dog days" os summer.
There will be a quiz on Facebook on Monday... Become a fan today so you won't miss the quiz - and the special prize for everyone who responds with the correct answer.

Need Budget Friendly Prints?
|
| A Penny Saved is a Penny Earned If you are like most people, you are looking for ways to
stretch your dollars. We understand! That's why we recommend Epson
Presentation paper as an economical alternative to our premium fine art
papers. With exceptional color clarity and a wide tonal range, this paper is suitable
for both color images and black and white. Although it has a slightly lower archival rating (70 years)
than our more expensive papers, we still use the same archival inks. The
biggest difference is in weight - at 192 grams vs. 260 - 290 grams,
Presentation paper is a bit lighter in feel than our three premium papers. This paper is perfect for art fairs, donations, gift shops,
open studios - anywhere that you want to offer a beautiful budget friendly print! And for a limited time, we are offering Epson Presentation Paper at a
great discount! Take a penny off the already low square inch pricing
- that's about a 25% saving off our normal pricing - and nearly half
the price of our super-premium papers. Give Presentation paper a try and save big! But don't wait -
this sale ends July 15th!
Fast talk at end of commercial: Due to the incredible popularity of our specials, the turn
around time for your order may be a little longer than our normal time frame.

Weigh in on Donations
|
| Kate Dardine | To Give or Not to Give... or What to Give...
by Kate Dardine
I read the email and rolled my eyes. And sighed. Yet another request
from yet another worthy cause asking for a donation of art. (Why
everyone thinks that artists can afford to donate their work is a topic
for another blog.)
I almost hit the delete button. After all, I
have donated paintings to six organizations already this year. I have
already committed to two more. But then I thought, wait a minute... I have
dozens of old prints stacked in my studio... I could donate them. And what
about all those older paintings and studies lining the walls of my
studio... couldn't I donate them as well?
But then, as often happens
with us Libra-types, I started thinking. If one of the reasons to
donate my work to non-profits is exposure, shouldn't I only donate my
best work? Some of my older work is, well, okay - but not at the level
of the work I'm producing now. So it is kind of embarrassing for me to
present it...

The results are in! Fine Print Imaging is pleased to announce the
winners of the "Celebrate Nature" photo contest. But first we want to
thank everyone who entered as well as all of you who took the time to
vote and to share your comments with the photographers. The response
was strong and the images represented a broad range of subject matter,
geographic location and skill levels - just what we were hoping for!

Saying Good-bye Is Hard...
|
| And so it is with heavy hearts that we say good-bye to our friend and co-worker, the "voice" of Fine Print, Lena Dalrymple. As some of you already know, Lena has been working days and going to school at night for the past 16 months to get her certification in radiology. We kept hoping she'd change her mind and stay... but she recently completed her internship at an Urgent Care facility and for some strange reason, they liked her and wanted to hire her on full-time. Good for them, bad for us.
Finding a replacement for Lena wasn't easy - how can you replace her wonderful sense of humor, her ability to keep track of all of us (like herding cats), answer phones and manage the accounting end of things as well. Lets just say the Energizer Bunny had nothing on Lena! In fact, we tried to use that line on her to convince her that she really COULD hold down two full-time jobs. But, in the end, Lena decided she was ready for new challenges...
But, every cloud has a silver lining, and we are thrilled to introduce you to Rebecca McClive. Rebecca has many years experience in bookkeeping - and, she is one of those rarest of rare individuals who are able to balance left and right brains. Rebecca is also a talented wildlife artist who has won many awards and is represented in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. She is also a Fine Print customer! Check out her work at www.rebeccamcclive.com.
For the time being, Rebecca will be working part-time, 8:30 - 12:30, so please call between those hours for accounting questions, if possible. And thanks for your patience as she learns our system!
When you call, it will most likely be Kate or Maria answering the phone - or, if you are lucky, you'll get the Pres himself, Mark Lukes. We can't promise to be as bubbly as Lena, but we do promise to get you to the person you need!

| Did You Know?
The difference between an Premier scan and a Raw scan?
A "scan" is a digital copy of a slide, transparency or of
paper/artwork. Before making prints from slides or artwork, the original
has to be scanned - converted into a digital file.
Both our Premier
and Raw scan are produced on the industry leading ICG drum scanner -
producing the highest quality scans available anywhere. For copying
artwork, we use a "digital back" on our 4x5 copy camera. Our
BetterLight digital back is essentially a scanner attached to a camera.
Our Premier drum scan includes clean-up, minor scratch
removal, color, density and contrast correction and are crafted to
closely match the original transparency. Also included in the price of
the scan is either an 8x10 or a 16x20 proof. A "Raw" drum scan includes basic clean-up and basic color
correction. The purpose of a raw scan is to create a high quality
digital file which is ready for you, the customer, to do your own color
and density adjustments. Included in the price of raw scans is burning
to a CD.
