April /2010
Greetings!

Happy April! The month of rain showers, taxes, Earth Day and of course yesterday - April Fool's Day - a reminder that we shouldn't take ourselves and the world so seriously all the time. Take the time to laugh today. Find humor in impossible situations. Go ahead - play a practical joke on someone! (Who says you can only do that one day a year?)

"A person without a sense of humor is like a wagon without springs. It's jolted by every pebble on the road."  - Henry Ward Beecher

Meet the Fine Print Imaging Staff:
Jerry Hummel

Jerry Hummel
Jerry Hummel
Digital Specialist and Chief Crate Maker (Master Wood Craftsman)

Artist, Jerry Hummel, has been painting original watercolors since 1973.  Born in Colorado, Jerry is naturally and instinctively inspired in creating his art, capturing the essence of the beauty that surrounds him and expressing his spiritual connection with Mother Earth.  With the great outdoors and our relationship with that environment as his vision, Jerry considers each of his paintings special, embracing their own uniqueness, spirit and inner light.  Jerry offers his greatest gift to others by sharing this vision through art.

Jerry started work at Fine Print in January, 1999, bringing to Fine print his knowledge of Iris giclée printing, Photoshop expertise, and experience in working with artist and photographers transitioning to digital technology.  Jerry's duties at Fine Print are many, but his primary role is preparing images in Photoshop for printing on the Chromira and Epson printers.  Jerry's passion is creativity and he feels that his skills and talents are a good match for Fine Print and its customers.

Prior to working at Fine Print, Jerry had his own fine art printing business, in Seattle, Washington and Fort Collins, Colorado.  He studied art at Colorado State University and privately with international watercolor artist Zoltan Szabo.  Jerry has taught watercolor painting and for many years sales of his original paintings was his main source of income.

For relaxation Jerry enjoys yoga, meditation, woodworking and painting.

Practicing Spontaneity
Kate with Quick Draw painting
Kate Dardine
by Kate Dardine

Normally I write about art marketing - but today I thought I'd share an adventure I had in my "other" life as a professional artist.

I recently was invited to participate in the Quick Draw at the 2010 Western Spirit Art Show in Cheyenne, Wyoming. And while by accepting, I knew I was throwing myself into uncharted waters, I felt I was up for the challenge. And I was. Until the week before the event.

Then suddenly the doubts, the what-ifs, the pit-in-the-stomach "now what have I done" reality of what I'd agreed to hit me like a 747 during take off. Not only did I have to paint in front of an audience - and really, that part was ok - but then my piece, along with pieces from five other artists, would be auctioned off. Right after they were "finished." A live auction I might add. Oh, and did I mention I had only 45 minutes, start to finish, to create this "masterpiece"?
